Running through areas is totally fine. Especially on a boss run. I'd say just try not to do it if you haven't cleared the area once before and had a chance to look around. You're doing great though, so whatever makes you happy.

The weird animation thing Vinny is trying to remember is called "LOD" (level of detail), which is swapping information by distance from the camera. Usually this is lower polycount models since the loss of detail wouldn't be noticed further from the camera. This could also apply to lower fidelity animations, since those cost memory too.
This is noticeably present in both Red Dead Redemption 2 and the Dark Souls games.
