The red capes are coming, the red capes are coming... oh wait, wrong movie.

I'm not feeling this or BvS honestly, I feel like they are both trying too hard to be "dark and edgy" and feel like 90's camp/attitude, but in the wrong ways, and I'm still not liking this Joker. Whereas people were skeptical of Heath Ledger, upon the first trailer with him--it removed all doubt--this one just raises more doubt. And the Joker purple luxury car is really dumb as well.

The feeling I have about this change is the same feeling I have about the totality of Gears 4's very existence:

A chronic, overwhelming, ubiquitous apathy.

Have you been hanging out with Alex, because this sounds like him. :)

@yummylee: I like Leon's section of RE6, then we got to Chris and Jake and it turned to utter hatred. I just couldn't get into Revelations 2, and I just hated it, perhaps the Remake soured me on it because I had such a blast revisiting and I didn't give it a fair shake, but boy, was I sour the chance I did try to give it.

@eder: I feel you on that. A lot of times I stick with a game and keep playing it (my poison is fighting games), but the problem is I keep buying other games, thus essentially wasting money. This year, I decided I'm going to actually play the games I buy, so there is a lot of back catalog I've been catching up on as well as playing the games this year.

Mine was The Last of Us on PS3. I was so excited to play that game on release day, completely unaware that the game had a save issue bug, meaning if you saved, it didn't actually save. I probably got about 3/4's of the way through the game on the first day and turned the game off, only to realize the next day, nothing had saved. They patched the game very quickly, but sadly not before I started playing.

I was torn. I didn't feel like going through everything ALL over again especially considering how amazing the game was and the story, but I felt that going through it again would be tedious, so I waited 3 - 4 months before finally having the will to play it again, and beat it.

Also, I'll chalk another one up for Fallout: New Vegas. I really enjoyed the game, but the game constantly crashed, so playing it was near impossible.

So we're at the halfway point of 2015 and so far, I think it's been a stellar year. I haven't had a chance to play everything, and this is more a list for me to not forget as long as a celebratory post. Let's talk about the games we love, hate, and still want to play this year!

Tops so far:

  • Resident Evil HD Remaster - a cheat I know as it's a re-remake, but the game still holds up and shows me more than ever that I prefer RE to be a survival horror game, not a third-person shooter.
  • Majora's Mask 3D - okay, another remake, but I'm with Dan on this, it's one of the best and most unique Zelda games with a solid remake.
  • Monster Hunter 4 - this was my first Monster Hunter game, and what a delight. Granted you basically HAVE to play it with a Circle Pad Pro, but I had a blast with it.
  • Ori and the Blind Forest - I love Metroidvania games, and this scratched that itch perfectly along with beautiful graphics and Meat Boy tough platforming, I had blast with this game.
  • Bloodborne - Lived up to all of my expectations, tweaking the "Souls" formula just enough for me.
  • Mortal Kombat X - still my defacto fighting franchise, and I'm glad MK X (on consoles, at least) held up to my lofty expectations. My only negative was a little too much focus on the "special forces" characters instead of more unique new characters along the lines of D'Vorrah and Ferra/Torr.
  • Pillars of Eternity - perfect CRPG throwback.
  • Witcher 3 - Probably the best open world game I've ever played, and man, I love Gwent.

Disappointments:

  • Evolve - What a waste. I mean great concept, but the lack of gameplay modes along with lack of content unless you shelled-out tons of money for DLC? No thanks.
  • Resident Evil Revelations 2 - Episodic content, bad co-op, terrible gameplay, Capcom released the REmake making me think they knew what fans wanted, and released this garbage. No thanks.
  • Batman Arkham Knight - I like the game, I don't love it. And I feel sad about that. The Batmobile is just too much for me (tank mode and constantly shooting drones?) along with a less than stellar story. I hoped it would be better.
  • Final Fantasy Type-0 - I wasn't expecting much from this game, but I was hearing good things for a M rated FF on the PSP, but I certainly wasn't expecting a camera that made me nauseated.

Surprises:

  • Elder Scrolls Online consoles - It has certainly been a borked launch, no doubt about that. But when I actually do get in on a server and can play, I'm surprised by how much fun I'm having with it.
  • Forza Horizon 2 Present Fast & Furious - Perfect free downloadable game (or $10 now I think, still a great standalone price). I got to play just enough Forza for my liking and felt it was perfect for me and not overt in its Fast and Furiousness.
  • Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin - I'm one of the people that likes Dark Souls 2, but I'm pleasantly surprised at the changes this game has. I know it wasn't the "best" but it was still good, and seeing the game at 60fps along with the reworked enemy locations was enough for me to take a second dip, plus I missed out on all the DLC which I heard was stellar.
  • Heroes of the Storm - I had no idea I would ever play a MOBA, let alone like one and get good at one, but here we are. Well done, Blizzard.

To do list:

  • Grow Home - I still want to play this charming platformer
  • Cities: Skylines - I can't wait until I get to play this "proper" Sim City game.
  • Axiom Verge - I need to play this very soon.
  • Titan Souls - something about it's super difficulty is alluring to me.
  • Project Cars - not sure I'm going to be able to get to it though with Forza 6 in September
  • Splatoon - Granted, I'll need to get a Wii-U and then hit up that backlog.
  • Massive Chalice - I have it downloaded but just haven't got to it yet.

Anticipating:

  • Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain - the Bombcrew has me a little worried about this, but I'm still optimistic.
  • Halo 5: Guardians: I'm not a COD person, but I still love me some Halo, Master Chief Collection be damned.
  • Mighty No. 9 - I Kickstarted this, and hope it's a return to form of my love for Mega Man.
  • Super Mario Maker - This will definitely get me to buy a Wii-U if it turns out great.
  • Assassin's Creed Syndicate - I should be worried, but given the shit-show that was Unity, I think Ubisoft knows this had to be golden.
  • Fallout 4 - Obviously.
  • Rise of the Tomb Raider - here's to having more actual tombs in the game.
  • X-Com 2 - X-Com: Enemy Within was my GOTY 2012, so I certainly hope this lives up to that.
  • Just Cause 3 - Just cause...

Challenge 2015:

  • Personal challenge - I've been working out a lot. I've lost a good amount of weight, but one of my personal goals is to bench 300 pounds. To real reason other than, I think I can get there. I'm at 275 now, so I see it coming.
  • Gaming challenge - I'm going to try my best to play a sports game and see if I can find the fun in it. I've played sports in real life, but the games never transfer for me. So, I'd like to game outside of my comfort zone, and see if I can find the fun in it. For some reason, I want to try this with a golf game. Oh, and try to catch up on some of my backlog... yikes.

And that's it! So, 2015 has been great so far, and it's looking like it'll continue to be throughout the year. How's your year going so far?

@mezmero: uh. That was vinegar, dude! Clams with vanilla sounds disgusting!

Ah that makes way more sense. I swear some of these British accents are totally fucked. Every other word sounds like something else entirely. It doesn't help that they have all these ridiculous fantasy names and locations to mumble. English is my first language and they still manage to confuse the hell out of me.

I thought he said vanilla too

Same here, I thought he said vanilla. My spouse and I had to rewind to hear it, and you can "slightly" distinguish vinegar. But, I'm with ya on that one.

Actually, I'm liking all of the new characters. I'm a little bummed that the Kombat Kids didn't fill spots for their parents (Jax, Sonya, Johnny), but this is by far the best Netherrealm has done in terms of making new characters.

In particular, Erron Black, D'Vorrah, and Ferra/Torr are my favorites, especially D'Vorrah and Ferra/Torr for their uniqueness. Kotal Khan is okay, but I'm not fully attached yet, I would honestly say that Jacqui is probably the most boring.
