I agree that there's a lot this game could be doing better, but it still got its hooks in me enough to make me want to keep going back to it. Sometimes it's fun to just drift in space between planets and not really go anywhere (until pirates notice all the gold I'm hauling, but hey). Or just poke around on a particularly oddly-colored planet.

Also, yeah, the narrative's not much of anything, but I love finding the little snippets of the aliens' history. Especially the Gek, who get a little scarier every time I find a monolith?? It's like wow, these cute little frog guys sure have a terrifying history of conquest
