As someone coming from a similar perspective (played some RTS, limited competitive experience) I can offer three valuable pieces of advice.
1. Watch SC2 videos. Seriously, take an hour or two to watch some matches on youtube, there are plenty of commentated matches with varying skill ranges. Even if you have no idea what is happening at first it'll quickly sink in. 2. Watch your own replays. The best way to get better is to learn from your mistakes and in the middle of a match you don't notice all the little (or occasionally massive) errors you make. 3. Learn the basic build orders and hotkeys. Starcraft is a game of 10 minutes - the player with the best start, to a certain degree, typically comes out the victor. Getting the most efficient start means knowing what to build when, and your micro and macro control will become instantly better when using the keyboard to build and control units instead of wasting time clicking. The easiest place to practice is against the AI.
Good luck with the rest of your placement matches. My experience was steam rolling the first three then getting the favour returned in the last two =P
For a moment I considered what an awesome package this is. Then I remembered I already own Starcraft & BW, the DVD commentary and music will likely be 'available' online after a week, and I'm not fussed in the slightest about artwork or a comic. Also I foresee them putting together an 'Ultimate Amazing Uber Mega Special Edition' once all three games are released anyway.
I'll take my regular Starcraft II and play the crap out of it tytm. Now, please finish the damn thing already Blizz =P
I can only speak from the PC perspective but damn. I finally decided to buy the game after reading praising reviews and recommendations, especially how favourably it compared to MW2's reception. The server browser happily displays <20 ping on many matches, but get into one? I've yet to play a match under 200. And it definitely feels like more than 200. How people will occasionally jump around or how you can unload an entire clip into someone's face 10ft away who then merrily turns around and stabs you. I regularly feel like I'm given the short straw in MW2 games but just about every close quarters situation in BC2 feels like a battle of latency, with someone else typically victorious. I assumed that having dedicated servers would be an end to lag frustration but seemingly not.
" Getting that 5 star achivement on the first try is impossible(as far as i know) you need the gold watch from beating the final pulse mission in the game. The gold watch when equipped ups the time needed for 5 stars and thus hands you the achivement :) "
I got it quite easily on the first try, 1:10 on a target of 2:15. Granted I had pretty much filled out primary stage 9 roles and had star tier 2 weapons but was still the easiest boss in the game tbh.
Since it does negligible damage anyway, start with RAV/SAB/SYN until you've done deprotect, deshell and possibly weak, then full RAV/RAV/RAV past stagger up to 900% then full COM/COM/COM. Fang and Light were both doing 99,999 a hit so it literally hit the floor in 3 bars.
Or, just go back and massacre it with a stage 10 crystarium =P
I don't understand the seemingly unanimous dislike for QLEXs. It's not like they come out every week.
Taken as a preview rather than a raw, unedited playthrough they serve just as good a purpose, sometimes probably better, as a regular QL. I don't know if I'd be as interested in Greed Corp if I'd watched Jeff stumble through it rather than a dev explain some of the subtleties and nuances of the gameplay. Plus in many cases they're running a preview build so there wouldn't be a QL at the time anyway.
In any case, I'd rather have a QLEX as opposed to no QL.
I assume for 95% of multiplatform titles they'll be playing the 360 version. Really it's rare these days for versions to differ, even in terms of graphical parity. I don't see it necessary for them to check every version of the game for differences, there are plenty of comparison websites out there for that sort of thing.
