Games that I love(d) playing

A couple of games that I love or loved playing. Some are pretty old, and some I play to this very day. All have a special place in my heart, though.

List items

  • Another game that took me by surprise. I bought it on a whim, not expecting very much. Boy, was I wrong! It's one of my favourite games of all time. Not particularly for the combat (which is a little to simple for my taste), but for the amazing story. I'm still horrified at some of the darker choices you can make in this game.

  • I was never into horror survival games, but Dead Space changed all that. My favourite moment has to be when you face the Leviathan. The moment when it goes from almost black and white to full colour still amazes me.

  • This game came out of nowhere for me. I bought it after reading a very confusing (you enter the minds of other people ... wtf?) two-paragraph review. My first play-through came to a screeching halt at the last level ("Meat Circus"). I finished it two years later when the scars of trying to get through that final level had healed :-)

  • I can play through this game blindfolded by now, but I can still remember my first playthrough. From the abduction intro to the "You've become a great man" from Jen ... amazing!

  • Stumbled on it while rummaging through a discount bin. Had no idea if it was any good. But was immediately hooked after playing the opening sequence. Took me a while to get the final boss pattern right, but loved it till the end!

  • King's Valley 2 was better than its predecessor in every way: better graphics, better sound and better gameplay. I couldn't stop playing it on my MSX-2, mainly because of the amazing sound effects and music. Tried to play it again years later on a (pretty good) emulator, but it just didn't feel the same anymore.

  • Knightmare was good, but Knightmare II was amazing (both on the MSX)! It had a lot of RPG aspects and was totally different from a lot of the games I used to play in those days. It was one of the few games I had to make a map for to be able to finish it.

  • The closest I will ever come to experiencing parcours. Too bad we'll probably never see a sequel :-(

  • I must have played this game for over a 100 hours. Some levels are etched into my brain (Morpheus and Facing Worlds come to mind). But it was mostly the DOMINATING! and GODLIKE! sound effects that I can remember vividly.

  • Played it on my Amiga 500 and loved the amazing graphics and sound. Still can remember the title song from Bomb the Bass.
