Screens are a long, long way from becoming completely obsolete, unless we're only talking about for gaming. As a guy whose job involves a lot of technical work on a computer, I'm always going to need to be able to see my actual desk - I'm not going to read a textbook (I hate reading textbooks digitally) or jot notes on my pad of paper in VR and operating two computers at once requires me to be able to see the keyboards and mice on my desk. I feel like we're a long was away from me being comfortable wearing a headset for 8+ hours a day with a virtual desk replacing my real-life desk... and there's going to have to be a more obvious benefit to switching to that for anyone to seriously consider working at a VR desk vs a real desk.

I hear you on that. The idea of someone using VR, where you can do ANYTHING YOU WANT, to just recreate a desk sounds so stupid. I could see someone putting on VR for a time to sculpt something in 3D kinda like that painting app Jeff tried out, and then taking it off to do further work on a traditional screen when it makes sense.

They were talking about AR you guys. That's what Magic Leap is. Not VR.

AR seems more like the future to. More practical. VR comes off as a trap, while AR looks like a practical solution.

Either one can lead to a scary future though. I don't want to be plugged into the system, bro.

Heh, I haven't listened yet, so I had to go off his description. Guess I was off!

Or he could skip mission 45 altogether and just finish the game without it. I did!

Possible mission 45 strategy spoiler:

If everyone is concerned with mission 45, make sure Drew knows about the aerial bombardment option for hard-to-kill tanks. I just spent 4 hours on that mission LAST NIGHT trying to use a highly-upgraded GROM and a Lock-on homing missile, and it was the most frustrating experience of my life. After I remembered the bombardment ability, I passed it on the next try.

If the entire corporation has this pristine maze-like quality, without any clear landmarks, i think it would prevent people from learning the map in a similar way.

It's probably important to note that there are other areas of the game that do not take place in the pristine halls of Vestige.

@humanity: Yes, this is something we are definitely aware of and will address. The idea from the beginning was always going to be these pristine hallways to the naked eye, but lots of AR that is revealed as you look around with your characters "lenses."

There are also some decorative color coding that go on the walls for different areas (security is blue, maintenance is orange, etc), but those will be used to fill in what we feel the AR doesn't accomplish.

Your mention of "graffiti on the wall" makes me want to add Augmented Reality graffiti! I am adding that to the list :)

@avanzato: It's good to get comments like yours because it means I'm failing to communicate or show certain aspects of the game. Obviously, there will be people who are just not into it, but this helps illuminate what we or I need to do better about getting people excited or interested in it.

If I think we're demonstrating A and B about the game, but people are just picking up on A, then it means I need to be better at showing B.

I won't make a change I don't believe in, but I do appreciate all the comments here, positive and negative.

@landgrinch: heh, indeed they are. The portraits are renders of the 3D models built for our gameplay perspective. We will be reducing his meaty arms (along with a paintover from our original character concept artist) for the final ones.
