I like TV shows better than Movies :)

It's just occurred to me how few movies I've seen this year. I haven't seen any of the best picture nominees... So my vote goes with whichever films have the closet correlation with Jeff Bridges.

As usual, I have not seen most of those movies. Not surprising, as I will always take a movie like Iron Man 2, or Tron Legacy over something like The Social Network. I like violence in my movies. 

yikes out of that list the only one i have seen is   Inception and i thought it was ok at best. 

Like I said on Screened, there's nothing really interesting to me this year.  Even with the new 10 film nomination system for Best Pic, I still didn't bother with a lot of the nominees.  I find it increasingly difficult to watch dramas, and so I am shut out of the Oscar races.   
 
I would prefer to see How to Train Your Dragon win over Toy Story 3 because I enjoyed it more.  TS3 was okay but I don't understand how people got teary over it.  I got it with UP but not at all with TS3, but of course I prefer TS2 in every sense so my opinion is admittedly skewed. 

If there's one movie that should have been on the best editing list, it's Scott Pilgrim. It's ridiculous that it didn't get nominated.

My vote goes to Inception any day of the week. I fucking love that movie.

Ricky Gervais should host every award show. He makes them actually fun to watch. 

The Kings Speech is going to win most of the categories, its just a fact.

Yeah I see The Social Network sweeping up most categories. Well good for them, it felt like the best thing this year. 

Unfortunately, The Social Network is gonna sweep the floor this year... Which is kinda sad, cause it's a pretty average film, especially when you consider other, older, films David Fincher has directed in the past. The Black Swan was my favorite film this year, but everybody knows no psychological horror drama will ever win a best film academy award... ever : /
Also, even if in my very humble, but professional opinion, Darren Aronofsky was without a doubt the best director this year, Christopher Nolan should've at least been nominated. Say what you will about Inception, but you can't really argue that its directing was almost flawless. Oh well...

Best Adapted Screenplay

Glad to see TS3 to at least be acknowledged.

I freaking loved Inception and Black Swan. Winter's Bone was OK, I don't really understand the praise it's getting because the story doesn't really go anywhere and there are so many characters that you don't get to see much of any of them besides Teardrop and Ree. But those two characters are really well done.

I'm just happy that Banksy was nominated for   Exit Through the Gift Shop.  Along with Dogtooth getting nominated.
I however would have liked to see Ryan Gosling get at least a nomination for Blue Valentine.

127 hours , I root for this brilliant piece of Art . I wish James Franco would win an oscar . 

Hmmm... still haven't seen The King's Speech or The Fighter (there's something about that Christian Bale guy), but I'm liking the rest of the nominees. I'm pulling REALLY, REALLY hard for How to Train Your Dragon to beat Toy Story 3. Dreamworks has had it's share of doozies in the past, but I honestly do think that HTTYD (with the exception of the "love interest") is much better than the final Toy Story chapter. Of couse, the odds of Pixar losing the Best Animated Feature category are slim to none. Oh well, a boy can dream.
 
Also, I hope that Alice in Wonderland wins nothing and I Am Love wins the Best Costume Design category-- I don't really care too much about costumes, but I did really like the movie and I want most things Tilda Swinton-related to win awards.

For me, Toy Story 3 was the best film this year by a long long way.

Ah yes, the Catface'rd Academy Awards. Can't wait.

Glad Jennifer Lawrence was nominated. Her role showed not every young actress has to show her tits, be gay, or be in a sex scene to earn nomination, and possibly a win. I saw only a few and of the movies listed and IMO Black Swan and Winter's Bone, as with the actress's who are nominated, are equally deserving of a win.

YAAAAAAWN.

The Academy is really losing its pull on the average American as the show continues to sink into mediocrity and they snub popular (but deserving) movies, such as Inception. I don't think it is a Best Picture winner, but I agree with you that it makes no sense to ignore Nolan and the editing of the film. But I digress.
 
I'm just now gearing up for awards season and starting to hit the theater in earnest. I saw Black Swan a few days ago and walked away extremely disappointed. Loved The Wrestler and thought Aronofsky had hit his stride, but I just couldn't care about any of the shallow characters in this movie. It was way too predictable and I was really disappointed by all of the jump scares. Anyways, looking forward to your thoughts. I'll be sure to post mine later this month.

I'm starting to hate The King's Speech before I've even seen it just because it's such a typical "Oscar movie". American Dad did a brilliant parody of these types of movies, aptly titled "Oscar Gold". Sorry for the shitty quality, it's all I could find.

Okay, so I finally went and saw The King's Speech yesterday.
 
It was better than I expected it to be.  But it was still just a very good movie with brilliant acting performances (especially by Colin Firth).  It wasn't a great movie like Inception and The Social Network.  Simply very good with great acting.
 
It's definitely the type of movie the Academy falls for.  It's traditional, a historical piece with royalty and it's an "overcoming a disability" drama.  It's the safer pick for them to make instead of going with a sci-fi movie (Inception) or a movie that goes as far as mocking "tradition" and "royalty" (The Social Network).
 
Colin Firth definitely deserves the Oscar for Best Actor.  That's a slam dunk case.  It probably winning everything else is what I have a problem with.  In no way does it deserve the Oscar for Best Picture over Inception or The Social Network or for Best Director over David Fincher for The Social Network(or Chris Nolan for Inception if he was even nominated).
 
But, as I said before, the Academy likes to hide themselves in their own exclusive group and don't want to go outside the box.
 
Oh well, I still have to go see Black Swan sometime soon.
