I don’t understand the distaste for the Switch D-Pad. The system is uncomfortable to hold, for sure. I use a grip and it solves that issue. But I love the D-Pad. Practically everyone on the site has complained about a controller reading diagonals from a D-Pad when it wasn’t intended. The Switch D-Pad is no question. If you’re not pressing two buttons, you’re not going diagonal. I’d rather that then the finnicky nonsense of the Pro Controller. Pro for 3D games, JoyCon for 2D games. I may stand alone, but that’s how I roll ?
@humanity: I get what you’re saying. Their feelings are aggressive so the reaction is aggressive. But Jeff talking that way should surprise no one. Dan seems to be the crux of this whole thing, and he’s clearly upset but never said “this game fucking sucks.” He’s exasperated because he clearly wants to like the game but doesn’t. And he gives specific issues and critiques to back up his feelings on it. He’s being true to how he feels and explains it. We follow this website because they give honest opinions and try to use critical thinking to explain their view. They don’t pull punches. Asking them to do so just because most people like the game is just not what Giant Bomb is about. For context, I disagreed last year with a lot of what they said about Zelda last year, but I stomached it because none of it was out of ordinary for who said it.
I love watching people talk themselves in circles to try and make it impossible to criticize RDR2. It’s okay to recognize flaws in things you love. It’s okay to love things others see flaws in. Arguing that someone’s view is invalid doesn’t make you more right. It just makes you look petty and woefully insecure in your opinions.
Boy. The way Dan is talking about RDR2 is exactly what happened to me with GTA4 and RDR1, and I haven’t been able to enjoy a Rockstar game since. They never feel good to play and they only really give you one way to play, which is to be in awe of their masturbatory masterwork. “I think everything about that game that is not a video game is stellar. I think the part where you’re controlling a video game and doing game shit is straight up bad at times.”
It’s always made me so sad I can’t enjoy these games. But from my perspective, nothing has changed between this and RDR1. The Magic has just faded a bit to where Rockstar’s BS is showing a little more.
I'm a partnered Twitch streamer and can say from watching the stream his issue wasn't on Twitch's side. Games that intensive can't handle being rendered and streamed from the same machine. The proof is that the archive is fine until he gets into intensely crowded scenes that will push ANY PC. It chokes on the encoding needed to send it out. The game will play fine but you'll see it hitch in OBS the same way it does for viewers. Dropping in-game resolution, going into windowed mode, and having a separate streaming PC are common solutions.
