@nethlem: I think those are pretty weak arguments to be making, to be honest. The first two are whataboutisms, and not even very good ones at that.

And corporate america caring about profit over ethics is exactly what people are protesting against. I'm not even sure what you're trying to say, there.

Lastly, the fact that some people are going about their protests in a weird or illogical way has little bearing on the actual issue.

I mean, if you don't care about this situation that's fine with me. And if you do, I think simply speaking up has its own merit. Is it going to fix the situation? Probably not. Could people do more? Perhaps. But even if it accomplishes nothing concrete, simply saying 'yo, that's messed up' is still a good message to send if that is how you feel.

The specific views expressed by blitzchung were NOT a factor in the decision we made. I want to be clear: our relationships in China had no influence on our decision.

Such bullshit.

It takes them one day to bring down the hammer on dissenting views and after that they take a week to carefully craft the absolute bare minimum to stop this spiraling out of control. And the worst part is they're probably going to get away with it.

If this had been the opposing viewpoint delivered in the same divisive and deliberate way, we would have felt and acted the same.

You mean like your Chinese weibo account pledging to protect China's national honour?

The 5-to-10 scale in video game reviews has been pretty well documented, I think. @gamer_152 explains it pretty well.

I think most of that stems from the old way video games were reviewed, with partial scores given for graphics, sound and gameplay. A shitty videogame that didn't look or sound like total garbage would still get some points in those categories. Ie. it would score 2/3 for graphics, 2/3 for sound and 1/4 for gameplay, which is a pretty garbage score but still nets it a total of 5/10.

Movies and other media have always been reviewed for the total package. If it's a bad movie, nobody cares if the audio mixing is done well. Therefor, it is traditionally way easier for a movie to score 2/10 than it is for a videogame.

I'm still trying to peddle my idea for a 3-star review system:

3 stars: you should buy this

2 stars: you could buy this if a certain aspect specifically appeals to you

1 star: you shouldn't buy this unless you really know what you're doing

Everything else is bullshit, anyway. Consumer experiences are so subjective that having a 100-point scale is just nonsense. It might help ranking one game over another, but that's largely academic and not really relevant. Which is why I kinda like RottenTomatoes's system.

Some of you are being very disingenuous, and I don't really understand why. What do you gain by blatantly misconstruing what others are saying on these forums?

It's ok to just disagree with someone. No need to belittle them or paint them as human scum.

@north6: I'll let @nicksmi56 speak for himself, but right now fixing the system should be the priority, not whatever flavour of the month mudslinging everyone's engaged in. Until there's some serious democratic reforms, everything else (including your vote) is meaningless.

@nicksmi56: You're making a lot of sense, my dude. You'd hope at some point thing's would get bad enough to the point where reforms would be inevitable, but it would be an easy argument to make we're already at that point and nothing's changing.

@kcin: Nice little rant, but I think you're just factually wrong. I'm willing to bet that the groups you mention are on average less politically engaged than the more privileged population. It sounds nice, but in fact the exact opposite of what you're saying is way more likely to be true.

@not_a_bumblebee: responses like that are a great reason to stay away from anything to do with politics. I would have something to say about a lot things politics-related, but in today's climate you can't even watch and enjoy a stand-up comedian without people judging you for it.

People stopped looking for reasonable discourse and common ground and are too busy blaming everyone else while digging their little trenches. I honestly can't blame anyone for saying 'fuck this, I'll check back in once people start listening again.'
