Best of 2012

Here are my top games of 2012.

List items

  • I have never had a game effect me as emotionally quite like the Walking Dead. The story is one of the most emotional stories in any medium anywhere. The gameplay may be okay, but the affecting story makes it my top game of the year.

  • I had never played an XCOM game before this one so I had no idea what I was getting into. I knew the series is revered by many strategy fans but I had no nostalgia what so ever. This game is absolutely fantastic all things considered. It may be hard as shit but I love it either way

  • I had no previous Far Cry experience. I always heard that they were really ambitious but never really made it in terms of gameplay. Far Cry 3 is an excellent experience packed with loads of fun stuff to do. The story may fall apart towards the end but with a villain like Vaas I can excuse some of that stuff.

  • I am probably one of the biggest basketball fans ever and NBA 2k13 satisfies all my hardwood needs. The MyCareer mode is the best single player mode in any sports game and its always fun to jump online and talk trash to friends.

  • Sure the ending wasn't the best and it wasn't as good as Mass Effect 2. But it doesn't matter to me. I still think that it is one of the best games of the year.

  • I had zero expectations going into this game. A game that was once called True Crime: Hong Kong later renamed to a different title should have been a shitty game. Especially if it was following the True Crime line of games which were pretty bad. But this remains as the biggest sleeper hit of the year and I had a great time with it.

  • I had no idea what this game was until a friend of mine gifted it to me on Steam. I played and I was hooked instantly. In FTL the drive to try and get to the end and face the evil rebels and collect every ship in the game is what made it one of my favorite games of the year.

  • Fez seemed like a run of the mill cute indie platform but once you peel back the layers of what the game actually is you realize there is a lot more to it. I don't want to reveal what it is because it is more affecting if you discover it by yourself.

  • Borderlands 2 didn't do much to the formula. But its still fun to go and collect as many guns as possible and show them off to friends.

  • From what I had seen from early footage and hearing the bombcast crew talk about it, Dishonored seemed like it could have been pretty interesting. Safe to say that I was pretty impressed with the final product. It takes a while to get going but I had a great time nonetheless
