Haven't seen it on shelves or in (German) online shops since then.

What are peoples main criticism of how the GB forums are structured? I personally like how it is set up, but I realize I might be a minority on that. Is it that every game has its own dedicated sub forum?

For me its several things that while none of them are big deals on their own, together it all just turns me off. I find replies and quotes blend too much and I don't like how posts are spaced. I'd prefer the post/poster information being near the posters avatar instead of at the top of the post as it's just distracting. Having so many different forums that are supposed to rise based on popularity makes me feel like its pointless to ever post about a game that isnt popular, I MUCH prefer having a simple games/off-topic setup. I'm also a 100 posts per page type of guy.

Like I said, its a bunch of tiny things that add up to turn me off. A style script could fix most of my complaints I suppose.

The two points about the spacing between posts and user information also between posts are excellent. I just realiazed that together they really drag down the readability of a thread and are mainly the cause of the unclean look that I complained about in my post.

edit: Make that three points. I also agree with quotes blending in too much.

I heard the GB crew mention an imminent redesign of the site on a recent podcast (or videostream?). Do we know whether the forums are also part of it?

The structure is not really the issue for me. Rather, it's the overdesigned look and the poor performance. It's just not as clean and seamless as browsing GAF, especially on mobile. Their mobile site was perfect.

If I was going to own GAF I'd obtain the servers, put on a new list of admins, change the name and logo, keep everything as is. That's pretty much the only way it could survive. That's asking a LOT from someone though.

Nah, the well's tainted. Easier to just let it die and its users migrate to communities that aren't lorded over by the mentally ill.

Which ones would that be? Of the largest gaming communities on the web, Neogaf was always the most sane to me. I'm sure as hell not going to migrate to Reddit or the like.

Shame about the poor usability of the GB forums. :-/

Am I the only one who thinks that incidents like the NeoGAF or Naugthy Dog one are supposed to be directed to the police and criminal prosecution first and foremost.

Don't get me wrong crime victims deserve all the support they can get but I can't see a scenario where raising allegations via the net is the right move.

A lot of the time, women are afraid to go to the police because of these powerful, rich men. They're not sure what the police can do about it and the police would need proof in the form of video evidence or testimonies. In this case, a bathroom does not have a security cameras for obvious reasons and both the accuser and accusee were alone. So they try to garner awareness first before going to the police. Or even on a more basic level, sympathy. You try to rile up an internet crowd in case of something happens to you.

Women getting harrased or having unwanted sexual attention has become the norm since a lot of women deal with powerful men. It is easier to keep quiet instead of risking your relationship with your boyfriend, risking your job on the workplace and so on.

No of this excuses you throwing actual rape-allegations at Malka. You're grossly overstepping the line here with your Anti-GAF-crusade.

I was a regular at GAF and just learned about Amirox along with everything about Tyler. Makes me question what else they covered up and what Tyler said to the team that finally crossed the line.

You probably also missed how Tyler mailed around revenge porn internally among the staff. Internal staff beefs which led to unmodding/banning some popular mods. Like how moderators sometimes gave members 2 hours to sustantiate their claims or they'd be perma-banned. NeoGAF was a drama show in action. One that insulted Brad on a regular basis for example whenever Brad decided to post there. The Giant Bomb thread was depressing to read sometimes. Most of that thread had fair moderation but one has to wonder what makes people think they can insult anyone at any given time? Probably the entitlement culture they nurtred for so long.

Again with your selective perception: Brad was NOT met with insults but mostly positive replies whenever I saw him post on Neogaf (that doesn't rule out the odd shithead that calls him sleepy or bad at games or whatever). The GB thread was also pretty peaceful and fun in general. Most Gaffers have a ton of respect for all things Giantbomb.

You are on a weird crusade here and you're overstepping kind a couple of lines with wrong claims and exaggerations.

"Do you even realize how ridiculous you sound? Did Neogaf hurt you physically or something?"

It hurt someone enough to keep them silent out of fear. And it was my main home on the internet for almost two decades, but if you gave me the torch, I would burn the site to the ground myself second one, because his actions were and are beyond unacceptable.

"It" hurt someone? I can assure you that a sizeable chunk of Neogaf did not even have an idea who Evilore is. And most users only knew that he owned Neogaf and that was about it.

See, that's exactly the problem I have with the Neogaf-hate here: the generalizations and exaggerations. Neogaf as a whole is not a hivemind nor a cesspool.

I understand you liked NeoGAF very much, but what has your comment have to do with anything...? I'm specifically talking about Tyler Malka, a known creep and possible rapist. NeoGAF in essence is Tyler since he laid the groundwork for what it had become. He's the one that admitted pedophiles, embezzlers and whatnot into the moderation staff. I am glad that video game enthousiasts can work towards a better future without the toxicity that is plagueing the industry. I am glad that NeoGAF is dead.

The problem is with you exaggarating and making hyperbolic statements. Yes, Malka is a weirdo who did and said some stuff that deserves condemnation and calling out (and therefore his days in the limelight of the gaming community are over) but he is not a convicted rapist, yet that's what you are portraying him as. The same goes with you generalizing and villifying the whole Neogaf community earlier. As someone who used Neogaf for 10 years on a regular basis, I just have to tell you that your claims are either just not true or vastly exaggerated. You might want to consider your own hate-bubble when talking about how Neogaf was a hivemind (that it really wasn't).

Tone it down, get some air. It is very obvious that you harbour an unhealthy grudge with all things Neogaf.

And Jesus, where is this statement from the owner? Its been like a day. Its not a good look to keep people waiting all this time. I think its just selfish to GAF users. I have friends on that site, I can no longer talk with. That hurts.

He must be thinking of making it an elaborate personal sob story:

1. Claim that you and her both were drunk, as if it's okay to creep upon naked women in shower when drunk

2. Claim that an unfortunate string of events led to him (almost) assaulting a naked woman

3. Say that he is damaged person, blabla depression, blabla life changing events, that he needs therapy

4. Vow to do better and that some therapy or whatever is going to drastically change him into a better person

Why don't people acknowledge that they were a garbage human to begin with and that no therapy or outside influence is going change them? These are the kind of people that champion being progressive but think groping women is okay because "Spain is a wild place." or "We were very drunk."

I truly believe that some people can truly change for the better but that most people are garbage and are only putting up a "Pity me."-play so that the rest of their life is not ruined. Some character traits, patterns, behaviour is ingrained into people and no matter how sorry you are or how much you vow to better yourself, they will pop up when the situation arises. Only a very small percentage change for the better and truly change character.

Tyler Malka however, is not that kind of person. He went to lenghts to cover up his filthy deeds, for years upon years. Banning people left and right, all the while wearing this mask of being progressive and pro-women. That's called having a Persona to cover up your true filthy character. Only those who are really fucked up go as far as creating a Persona for it.

I worked in the psychiatry field and with people that had a criminal past. Tyler Malka always struck me as the type of sex offender that is wealthy and has a power to cover up things. That's why this story is popping up this late. He had a whole army of soldiers willing to die for him and doxx his accusers so he was never afraid. That is, up untill women finally had the courage to stand up at the right moment to fight garbage humans like these.

Do you even realize how ridiculous you sound? Did Neogaf hurt you physically or something? Go outside, get some air...

The gb community on gaf was whiney/complained all the time. But I met a lot of cool people through it.

I can’t see myself switching to the official forums because I hate how it’s organized. But gbgaf I’ll miss ya

I feel you! ;(

I would switch to GB as my go-to videogame community place in an instant if only the forum software was better. In fact, I tried several times but I keep falling off the site due to useability issues.
