Raw eggs, man. Organic, free-range, to avoid risks. Throw in an avocado and a red onion if you can stomach it. I'm all about the fats and the proteins :)
All enemies disappear from Anor Londo when you do it, but you can't use the first bonfire, as the person guarding it will be pissed (drops a fire keeper soul though).
You can't really get anywhere in Demon Ruins yet, save for that sweet light armor. The shortcut past Valley of Drakes is your best bet. Minimal hostility (don't need to fight any dragons, just a couple of giants), and you end up right at the beginning of New Londo Ruins, before the ghosts.
If you upgraded the spear to a +4 already, you might as well go all the way, unless you're into the idea of grinding (a lot). Fire and lightning don't scale with your stats, so on a first playthrough they will be very powerful. But after they are maxed you'll never do more damage, so you get diminishing returns. The other upgrades are about scaling with your stats (raw less so than regular) and/or splitting damage between different damage types.
I'd say it does get better. The reason is that Geralt becomes stronger, while his enemies don't. So the first time you encounter a new type of enemy, it's going to fuck you silly. But once you gain a couple of levels on it, occasionally upgrading your equipment, it'll become much less of a problem. Of course, if you ever become sloppy or lazy during a fight, you'll definitely die. That doesn't change. I think it was somewhere during act 2 when combat became fun and cool.
