I laughed about Rorie's Mr. Shifty fandom for awhile, but wound up loving it once I actually played it. One of those games that just feels great to play and doesn't outstay its welcome.

Aside from the clear influences like Hotline Miami and Nightcrawler's teleportation powers, where did the idea come from? I'm interested in the origins of Mr. Shifty and that cool-ass, silly name.

@lab392: Yeah, you know, I think that was the secret. It was just fun to do whatever, fly around or hold a base or assault a defensive line til it fell. For awhile the stat tracking was busted so you could only really play for the fun of it. Not to mention how well the Warhawks controlled, a fast Twisted Metal/Critical Depth hybrid.

I'd love to see a rerelease. Still holding on for a new Twisted Metal game, but Warhawk would have no problem finding an audience for people that want a Battlefield/Battlefront/BTB alternative.

I still re-watch the various "This is the Run" seasons. A lot of that is the chemistry between Dan and Vinny, but I think you could get a different fun feel from Dan and Grubb doing it. That said, being in the same room was also a big part of what made it great.

I second more This is the Run. Some very fond memories of that Contra: Hard Corps saga.

Now and then. I usually have some Amazon bucks laying around, and I use those exclusively for games. My game budget has dropped so much due to Game Pass and PS+, to the point where I only really have to buy 1 or 2 big games a quarter.

Shame, I occasionally click on their videos and they've generally been pretty good. But I did get the sense that the production budget might be a little too high. Or maybe that's just me comparing it to so many outlets being webcams at home nowadays. Hell, just a few years ago Giant Bomb had TWO studios.

Also, wtf is happening to this thread? This woke discussion is bizarre.

Taking this opportunity to remind people of Infernax. It's basically a Zelda II/Simon's Quest hybrid and it rules. One of the best side-scrollers of the year.

Welp, now I'm inspired to boot up Alpha 3 again and run through that World Tour mode. One of the best single player modes in any fighting game.

Warhawk on the PS3 was so good. I was strangely good at it, always on top of the leaderboard so I could've gone pro. And I'm bad at multiplayer games.

Twisted Metal's a classic, but the original is tough to go back to. 2 is, as well, but I still have a fondness for it due to the sheer amount of time put into it. And the music.

If anyone wants to go back to TM these days, Black is the one. The gameplay's great, it runs smoothly, and it nails the aesthetic it goes for (love it or hate it).
