I'll just chim in and say my first impression of the game. First and foremost, my god did they turn this game around since the last time I played. Granted it was in the first beta but, the interface was slow, the game was kinda bland, the performance was not that great either. All that totally changed, the interface is smooth and slick, giving the game a very clean look, there's a lot of detail on the character and there's a lot of custumization that can be done. For example, I made a Mi'qote male because I could not believe they put both gender in FFXIV. :D And the nice thing is that you can change both the color of your eyes, different shade in your hair + all the normal stuff you find in other MMO. (scar and the like).

I'm at the very beginning and did not play a lot right now, mostly because my PC have a hard time with game that demand a little more and just overheat and shutdown if I play for too long, which is a bummer . :/ But overall when I play the game it play more smoothly that I would have thought. All the music in this game is really great and I find the leveling up fanfare to be really gratifying, but the nostalgia may be a big part of it. :)

Overall, I really hope they can pull off a miracle with this game and that it has the same magic FFXI had for me at the time. I played a lot of MMO since then, but nothing took my attention as much as FFXI did.

Here's some screenshot I took:

Just got a key. It was a pretty painless process and I'm now downloading the game. Can't wait to remake my Elvaan Paladin... except that I don't remember the name of the race nor if the Paladin class exist in FFXIV since I only played the first beta....

Anyway thanks for the tips, I know what I'll do this week end! :)

Here's my update for June. Pretty proud of myself for my first month in the competition! :)

June 2013

Bought (-3)

  • The last of us
  • Tomb Raider
  • Quantum Conundrum

Beaten (+8)

  • Limbo
  • Vanquish
  • Okami HD
  • Far Cry 3
  • Alice Madness Return
  • Ghost Recon Futur Soldier
  • The last of us
  • Tomb Raider

Had to buy Last of us and there was a sale on Tomb Raider that came with Quantum Conundrum

Much of those game were almost done at the time. Like Okami for example, I was 5-6 hour away from the end. Alice it turns out I was at the last boss fight.

Limbo was ok but nothing stood out for me.

Vanquish was good, dunno why I did not like it at first, maybe the start is a little slow but where I started it was nice.

Okami was a good game, really liked the story even though it's a little too long.

Far Cry 3 good character but the story could have been better. Took some time to get used to the sneaking and chaining combo stuff.

Alice Madness Return... well, I was at the end of the game so I did not remember much of the game at all. The end boss was kinda lame. Hopefully there's memory so I could track back what happened,

Ghost Recon: Played with a friend. Overall it was good but I would have liked more diversity in the gameplay, all the mission looked pretty much the same.

The last of us: Great game. Since it's pretty recent I won't say anything else.

Tomb Raider: Really like it. The thing I liked the most stupidly enough was the way Lara hold her handgun when it was drawn. Like when she sneak or in battle, two hands on the grip and a little to her right, anyway I dunno why but it's the first time that I notice how a character hold a gun in game and find it pretty cool. :D

Monthly result:+ 5

Current result: -1.

Pretty close to zero! Doubt I'll buy much game in July but who know. Trying to finish Human revolution at the moment. I'm at the moment where I find the doctor after traveling in a boat from shenghai so dunno how long I am from the end. It's getting pretty tedious because I have less and less interest in the game. Dunno if it's because of the story or the character. Nonetheless, I'll finish the game this month for sure.

Anyway, that's it!

@hunkulese: Neither of those industries have made such a crazy push for it though. You can still buy unrestricted copies of movies and music, on discs, that can be sold/moved around at will. As of now, physical and digital media coexist in every entertainment industry, and I really don't see the need for that to change so quickly. Maybe once digital proves to be better than physical the market will shift, but until then we need physical media.

the problem is that they are forcing it on to you no matter what. Sony instead goes the natural way by offer people a choice and sometime the switch to digital will happen naturally. You do not need to force this stuff upon people.

That's exactly what I was thinking as well. Microsoft try to force the change when in reality it should be first and foremost accepted by the customer. How can a company make the consumer want the change is pretty much what sony is doing at the moment: Don't restrict Blu ray but also support digital content as much as possible, show people that it can be advantageous to go the digital road instead of buying a disc. The change won't happen in 1 day, but if they can show that buying digital game has more benefice than the restriction it come with, then the custumer will be ready for the change and disc will fade away by itself.

Also, the big plus of this method is that it let sony plenty of time to figure out the best method to handle Digital Market when it will become the main way to sell game. But for now there is no rush, the transition as begun slowly but surely. For example, I just bought Tomb Raider bundle on PSN for 20$ that incldule a bunch of skin pack/multiplayer map and it came with Quantum Conumdrum . If deal like that continue to improve on console, it can only be a good thing for consumer.

Even if it's far from the FF root, maybe it's what FF need to get back. Really liked the gameplay. Just hope that it's as fluid as they showed in the video.

@jouseldelka: There's also Liquid snake and Solidus Snake I think both of them are considered the brothers of Solid Snake (well I'm sure for Liquid but I can't remember for Solidus)

They are the produce of a project called Les enfants terribles, a cloning experiment of Naked Snake which became Big Boss after killing his mentor named The Boss. And no... I'm not making this up. If you really did not know then enjoy the glorious Metal Gear lore... :)

Strangely enough, I was thinking about something like that 2-3 minutes ago to be able to finish my backlog. So I guess I'll jump in for fun. Here's my list since january (thanks to email receipt and not my memory):

January 2013

Bought (-6)

  • DmC Devil May Cry
  • ACE COMBAT ASSAULT HORIZON DLC PACK
  • Hydrophobia: Prophecy
  • Sound Shapes™ PS Vita
  • Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch™
  • Little Inferno

Beaten (+2)

  • DmC Devil May Cry
  • Little Inferno

Buying spree but not much playing. Except DMC that I was able to finish, yay me.

February 2013

Bought (-1)

  • The Room

Beaten (+1)

  • The Room

Almost no gaming was done. Main reason is that I changed city / job so beside watching a lot of Dexter and 24, I did not do much beside getting nervous and stuff.

March 2013

Bought (-4)

  • SimCity 4 Deluxe
  • The Darkness
  • El Shaddai
  • Rayman Jungle Run

Beaten (+2)

  • Bayonnetta
  • Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm

I was able to beat two old game I had. Bayonetta was fun to finish. Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm was a pain in the ass because I just wanted to finish it to play Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm 2 afterward. I also bought game that were interesting and pretty cheap at the time.

April 2013

Bought (-1)

  • Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen™

Beaten (0)

  • Nothing

Bought Dragon's Dogma and it's pretty fun.

May 2013

Bought (0)

  • Nothing

Beaten (+1)

  • Guild War 2

Mostly played Dragon Dogma and GW2. Since GW2 is not a game you can't finish really... well, now that I think about it I did finish the main story of my character for the first time (beaten final boss)... so I guess I could put it in beaten? (let me know if you think I should remove it). Oh and the end was great with my guild. In fact, dancing and listening to the GW 2 soundtrack in the last mission with guild mate was more fun than beating the dragon itself.
