I think that at first, you should test out which character(s) you like playing in the training mode. Once you've done that, I'm jump into the Trial mode and learn a few combos just to get the feel of how to perform them.

After that, I'd start by mixing it up by playing against some friends who are at the same level as you. Once you grasp the main concepts and think you're getting good, jump online, get humbled (I speak from experience here lol) and then keep on plugging :). I think that when you first get online, the most important part is playing against 'cheap players' and thinking of ways to counter them.

I dunno if that'll help but that's how I did it, and it's worked out pretty well for me. I was really, REALLY terrible when I first got the game but now I manage to win about 1 out of every 4 or 5 matches online which is a huge improvement for me lol.

That'd be the one :)

Btw, can you consistently throw Hadoukens? Because this is basically that movement twice. If you can't pull it off, maybe you should practice the basic motion.

One other thing that I had issues with in the beginning is that I was pressing the last buttons exactly at the same time as the last direction when I should've done it a fraction of a second later. Maybe that could help?

I'm not a good player by any means so take my advice with a grain of salt but when I knock my opponent to the floor, I tend to try and time super moves or start combos in a way that they'd immediately get hit when they get back up.

Oh and unless I'm horribly mistaken, I don't think that there's a way to hit an opponent who is lying down.

Yeah, I used to lose A LOT when I first got online. I think the trick really is to just find a character that suits you and learn how to use them effectively.

well i say start by buying an arcade stick. then practice fireballs and dragon punches over and over again. thats how i learned, and i live by playing fighting games with arcade sticks. i'm glad they set this game up to work perfectly with a 6-button arcade stick."
If you're like me and can't afford a new arcade stick (yet) I just practice holding an analog stick on a controller as I would an arcade stick. As he said, the first thing you should do is know the essential movements for a fighter. Once you've got that down, you're already better then me. I'd also reccomend learning not to look at your own character. Other then that, it depnds on the game."
Thanks for the tips, guys! I've started playing with an arcade stick a few days ago and there's definitely a learning curve to it but I think I'm liking this very much. I've even managed to start winning a few matches online :). I guess it's all a matter of practice now...

I had that problem when I first bought it but I d/l'ed a patch recently that seemed to fix the problem. It's still super annoying though :/
