To play the devil's advocate: we all fondly remember the PSX / PS2 classics, but how many of us actually go back and play them *regularly*? (I personally load up the PS3-playable version of the PSX Chrono Trigger about once a year, play for about an hour, and...that's about it. Oh, and Red Star, because who the hell ever heard of *that* property?!)

I guarantee you that, if a game series of yesteryear is beloved enough, a version (re-release, remaster, remake, whatever you want to call it) of it will also appear on the PS5 digital store. Yes, it will suck if you have to purchase it again, and yes, this is not a practice that benefits the customer, but it's not an apocalyptic "classic PSX/PS2/PS3 games will disappear forever and ever" situation.

@shindig: seems people do miss them, so why are devs leaving money on the table.

Ultimately, it's because there's no money on the table. The number of people who would buy a game just because it had cheats, and the number of people who would *not* buy a game because it *didn't* have cheats, is negligable.

No one falls like that naturally.

I didn't realize you were the Grand Arbiter of Humans Falling Down as Captured By The Internet.

A new Bloody Roar game, because those were silly as all get-out, but come on. Boxing-wolf versus wrestling-beetle (and a bajillion other were-beasts)? Hell yes!

"It takes time" is not an excuse, it's a fact. Aside from the fact that no one is suffering any harm from an debatably slower release schedule, GB has also had just two of the staff leave and another just had a baby, not counting this whole global pandemic thing.

@humanity: Fair, and I'm sure GB's content releases much more smoothly today than it did 10+ years ago - but just because someone's been doing something for a long time doesn't mean technological and human limits go away.

If it took an expert baker 4 hours to build and bake a cake 10+ years ago, I guarantee you that it's going to take almost 4 hours for them to do the same thing today. The technique may be refined, the flavor may be that much more exquisite, but there are limits on how quickly anything can be released (and still be of quality). Not to mention the extraordinary situation the world finds itself in during the pandemic.

I wouldn't call 8 individual pieces of content in the past week a "desert" of content. It takes time to produce, edit and upload videos and podcasts. There's no magic "do this for meh" button.

@bigsocrates: If you do that, I'll create an account under the name "Big Jeffery" and go on for an uncomfortable length of time about how everyone should ride my rollercoaster.

And lo, the Prophet foretold: "In the final days of Ye Console Wars, the people shall run out of things to squabble about, save for an argument about batteries".
