Games I Liked in 2013

These are games that I enjoyed in the year 2013. At some point, I want to hopefully mold this into some kind top 10 list come December, or maybe I'll just go full Piero Scaruffi and not finish the thing until like 2017

List items

  • If the 3DS Activity Log is to be believed, I've spent over 160 hours playing this game in the last two months alone, and somehow the game is still managing to throw new and exciting things my way. There's nothing I love more than when games rouse this kind of single minded determination. I would be extremely surprised if any game manages to usurp Animal Crossing as my favorite game of 2013.

  • The gameplay could have been a lot better, but I really liked the storytelling in this game. I've never felt so engrossed in a game world as I was with this game.

  • Below are games that I haven't played yet, but look interesting.

  • People seem to really, passionately hate this game for one reason or another, but I've never been too disappointed by a game that Giant Bomb gave a five star to.

  • The combination of XCOM and Planescape seemed auspicious in the Quick Look.

  • The Quick Look got me really excited about this game, but I'm a touch disappointed by the crippling performance issues, considering I don't have a decent gaming computer (and only sporadically a computer at all).

  • Played for like 30 minutes and didn't make much progress. It seemed well made enough, but definitely harder than Persona.

  • Both ChipCheezum and Diabeetus mentioned how much they liked this game, which is enough for me.

  • This game didn't look all that special when I saw the Quick Look, but I've heard enough people calling this game their favorite of 2013 to make me curious.

  • I've never touched a Fire Emblem game myself, but I know people who are way into them, and this game has a really cool cover.

  • I hear people talk about the Atelier series a lot, but I'm not sure if it's because the game is fun to play or if it's just because the characters are hot. I'm instinctively skeptical of all non-Shin Megami Tensei JRPGs now after I bought the first Neptunia game per the Internet's suggestion.

  • Played for like 5 hours and made fuck all progress. I've heard people say this game is easy, but geez, I died three times in the first dungeon.

  • This game comes up a lot when I hear people talking about "Grand Strategy Games" on /v/ and I've been eager to give it a spin for a while. I only hope it isn't too much for me.

  • I haven't actually played any of Civ 5 period, only ever Civ 4, but what I've heard has sounded promising. Who doesn't want to be a ruthless Zulu warlord, crushing once mighty republics in your wake?

  • I liked Duke Nukem 3D and I liked the original Rise of the Triad! I even liked Star Wars: Dark Forces. If this is a good enough to homage to that style of first person shooter, it should be a fun time. Psychedelic Eyeball is a big fan, apparently.

  • They taled about this game a lot on the 8-4 play podcast. You always want games to be good, but there's a part of me that really does not want this game to be good, just so I can continue not owning a Wii U

  • The review wasn't glowing, but talk on the podcast made me interested in what this game has to offer.

  • I wasn't interested in this game for the longest time, but a playthrough by Geop on Something Awful piqued my interested.
