As a little side-note: did you know that Chopin's character in Eternal Sonata actually has a special attack called Phantom Pain?

I don't understand anything anymore.

Regretfully, I haven't found the actual reason behind or link between the name of that special attack and Chopin himself. Perhaps as my finals wind down.

@TheHT: Nice catch. Given the size of Chopin's library, and that I haven't properly played games for quite some time, I don't doubt that there's a few uses of him here and there that I've missed. He did for example, after all, write what most people recognize instantly as the funeral march.

I've been wondering lately why I feel like I hear more and more hints of Chopin's music in various things relating to video games.

Out the top of my head I can think of the Chopin game on iPad, starring the legendary composer resurrected by the muses to battle the corporate influences of today's music industry.

Before that, there was of course Eternal Sonata, where Chopin is the actual narrator.

Recently, I was surprised to hear the familiar melody of what was to become Chopin's own funeral music, his Prelude in e-minor, op.28 no.4, used in a tune on the Fez soundtrack.

And today I saw the trailer for Phantom Pain where, first at around the 33 second mark but most noticeably when the title card appears, a famous burst from one of Chopin's tunes is heard. I will add the title once I remember exactly which song it is.

As a little side-note: did you know that Chopin's character in Eternal Sonata actually has a special attack called Phantom Pain?

I wonder when we'll start to see more composers getting their time in the spotlight of games.

Although I haven't read the third book, so I'm maybe not justified in calling it my favourite series, I will mention Clive Barker's Abarat. I never really got into any of the Rowlings or Pullmans, but Abarat hooked me. Also, I assume we're not counting comic book series, because I'd have a few to mention.

@BaneFireLord: I'm an hour in and hoping that that problems I'm having are simply due to my getting used to the controls still, but the biggest problems are simply too silly for that.

Nine out of ten times I swipe to drag the map around, the spot where my finger stops and leaves the screens registers as a 'click', so I have to be constantly vigilant that none of my characters are about to do something I don't want them to.

It seems to be completely up to me to learn which rules of scrolling and navigation apply to which menu and which body of text, and they are far from being the same from context to context. Swiping in one text scrolls, in another text nothing happens and I have to find the sweet spot on the scroll bar to tap without entering some other window or beginning to edit the text-field, and in yet another it switches to another window or closes it.

I can forget about trying to pick up items as small as a ring lying on the ground, since no amount of clicking around it will register as hitting it. It's already hard enough to pick up regular sized items, or even clicking on NPCs or enemies. Usually it takes a few tries of navigating the whole party back and forth around the item or NPC until finally registering.

The inventory is a hassle, since way too many commands require tapping and holding to activate, without being clear on how long to hold, which often ends up in item getting thrown around, unwillingly equipped/unequipped or worse.

Conversations are a risky business, since the text is fairly small and making dialogue choices can end up with you choosing the next option above or below the one you want and lead to unwanted consequences.

I could go on and I don't doubt that the issues will multiply once the gameplay and party management becomes more complicated, but in short, the simplest tasks are incredibly frustrating, and in a way that negates the whole point of me getting the game in iPad, since I wanted to get quick bursts of playtime here and there, but simply navigating my inventory can take a few minutes each time.

Harrumph.

Edit: Also, turns out it's seriously prone to crashing and booting back to the main menu without any obvious reason. Just now I lost the first and only proper progress I made. Fun.
