@kingroyce: No one is decrying harassment of GG supporters as false flags. However, there isn't a movement going around harassing the GG movement, it's individuals who aren't connected by a rallying call.

GG on the other hand is a movement, and as a movement it's accountable for any bad actions it causes, even if on accident. And it would take a major leap of logic to say that the current rash of harassment/dox/threats against people GG are against isn't caused by GG.

@exfate: That might well be true but the refusal of anyone to even discuss this stuff is what baffles me. Multiple people on the GG side have been doxxed and threatened, Milo, Boogie etc and no one on the other side seems willing to even acknowledge it.

This is because there aren't any "sides" in this. People who aren't supporting GG aren't part of a movement, they just don't agree with either the message or methods of GG. People who are part of GG willingly choose to associate themselves with everything done by the movement (and this is because it's anonymous, leaderless, and decentralized). People in GG getting harassed sucks, but there isn't any group to blame for that harassment. Only the specific people doing the harassment.

While when GG gets people harassed or harasses people, because the group has absolutely no organization or accountability the whole movement takes on the negativity caused by individual member's actions.

If nothing else, Giant Bomb should touch on this because people who they've considered "friends of the site" have been getting harassed out of the industry.

Saying nothing about the group threatening your friends and colleagues is irresponsible. Ignoring something that's hitting the indie dev scene this hard is flat out ignoring actual news. And while I like that GB is typically fun, I come here for their views, even the serious ones.

They gain absolutely nothing by sitting back and watching this happen besides "safety". They lose the respect of their colleagues, the industry they cover, and their audience who's watching this happen.

What do they lose by taking a stance? The support of a hateful movement. What do they gain? Everything they're losing by staying quiet and a healthier game community.

While some people may think of Giant Bomb as just a funny site full of "the lulz" I have never seen it that way. Its informative AND entertaining. The cast and their guests give a perspective on the industry that is well thought out and based on experiences. They deal with serious issues facing the industry, and just like the discussions on studio closings and games not selling they're going to touch on the issue of diversity in the industry.

I've never seen the Giant Bomb cast as clowns who are only there to make me laugh. I listen to them because they're entertaining people who care as much about this industry as I do. I listen to the Bombcast to get long form opinions from them as far as the industry goes.

If even a small mention of diversity is too much seriousness for the Bombcast then it wouldn't be something I'd be interested in listening to. This is a website about videogames. And videogames as an industry is having a large scale conversation about diversity in the industry at the moment. I don't see the problem with that being a short focus on their 2-3 hour long weekly podcast every once in a while.

I shut this week's podcast off early, so I can't comment on all of it.

But putting on the guest and then slicing and dicing sex and gender issues for 15 minutes is a huge turn off to me. It isn't what I tune into the podcast for and furthermore I think spending that much time dividing everyone into buckets and talking about their differences that don't really have anything to do with gaming does nothing to unite a community, if anything it just reinforces how different everyone is.

I welcome guests such as the Bombcast had on this week. Please bring on more guests of all diverse backgrounds in the future to contribute to the discussion of gaming. But if you're going to bring them on to bang on about gender issues instead, please don't bother.

They did bring on a guest who discussed gaming. In fact, they spent the vast majority of this week's podcast talking about gaming. It was only the first 10 minutes where they happened to talk about Gaymer X. Samantha only briefly talked about going there, since Brad asked about what she had been up to and why she was in town (which is something they usually ask their guests) and then they moved on.

I didn't blame Samantha for the time spent on the topic, so pointing out it was Brad driving it is to miss my point.

As to the idea they just discussed briefly why she was in town, tune in at 7:40 where the discussion not about why anyone was in town or even GaymerX but about sexual/social issues and gaming and chiding people over their beliefs around increasing diversity.

That's not what I tune in for. I'm here to talk about shared experiences of gaming not dividing people up into groups.

Call it self centered, pollyanna or anything you want, I don't really care. It's not what the Bombcast is about to me. I'm here for the games and the lulz. I have plenty of other places to go to to learn about social issues.

I must have listened to a different Bombcast than you. All I heard was Samantha describing what GaymerX was like at 7:40. Did you have this same reaction when they talked about what the E3 show floor was like?
