I just spent an hour building a wall around sanctuary. It's the most busted ass wall in the history of the universe, but no raider scum will get through it.
To answer your question with a question, why do people play Minecraft? Doing this kinda stuff just hits home with some people, even if it seems aimless from the outside.

I'll echo this because that's all I want from this feature. I've always wanted more control over my home base in these games. Hearthfire didn't really satisfy that desire - this does.
Yep. Parts of this aspect of the game have their hooks in me. For example, I'm kind of meh on the building aspect (walls, domiciles, etc.), but, for whatever reason, I'm really into running power to everything. As I'm figuring the building aspect more, I'm starting to enjoy it more and plan on spending a good amount of time, post main story, working on settlements. AND, since the interface is so clunky, I'm freaking thrilled that it's not a mandatory aspect of the game. I'd like it a lot less if I was forced to do it to progress through the story. As it is, I engage with as I see fit.
