I just spent an hour building a wall around sanctuary. It's the most busted ass wall in the history of the universe, but no raider scum will get through it.

To answer your question with a question, why do people play Minecraft? Doing this kinda stuff just hits home with some people, even if it seems aimless from the outside.

Exactly this.

I'll echo this because that's all I want from this feature. I've always wanted more control over my home base in these games. Hearthfire didn't really satisfy that desire - this does.

Yep. Parts of this aspect of the game have their hooks in me. For example, I'm kind of meh on the building aspect (walls, domiciles, etc.), but, for whatever reason, I'm really into running power to everything. As I'm figuring the building aspect more, I'm starting to enjoy it more and plan on spending a good amount of time, post main story, working on settlements. AND, since the interface is so clunky, I'm freaking thrilled that it's not a mandatory aspect of the game. I'd like it a lot less if I was forced to do it to progress through the story. As it is, I engage with as I see fit.

Can't disagree with you, yet I also don't care. I love this game and have no idea when I'm going to stop playing it. Since Morrowind, which, in my opinion, had a great story, the main story line is not the reason I play games from Todd Howard's studio.

Interesting, I'm glad to see others are having a similar experience. Not having a good PC, I compare my Fallout 4 experience with playing Bethesda games on the PS3, and this has been soooo much better. I never completed the final DLC of Fallout 3 (blanking on the name...had a swamp I think) because it was almost unplayable on the PS3 by that point. Shame, as I heard that was the best DLC.

Dogmeat is Dogmeat, and I think my time spent traveling with him has been my favourite. The Lone Wanderer and his dog friend roaming the wasteland and fucking up Raiders is a cool thing.

Yep, that's where I landed. I travelled with Nick for a bit, Curie for a lot less, and Dogmeat for about 85% of my time before completing the main story. The appeal of just me and my dog taking on the wasteland was just too hard to resist.

70+ hours, level 45 character, PS4, and nothing noticeable like playing Oblivion, Skyrim, or Fallout 3 on the PS3 - all of which I'd describe as intolerable, but I didn't have another alternative. In fact, I've yet to have a single crash.

I've done almost nothing with settlements and don't intend to. Busy work that I don't care to do. I put a fence around the Red Rocket close to Sanctuary Hills, and hated how the tools didn't really allow me to align parts correctly. Same thing with building structures. However, I do want to noodle around with the what I can do with generators and other pieces in the Power section after doing one of the quests in the game. Some potentially cool possibilities there.

@milijango: Hmm, I'll try and pay closer attention to frame rate next time I'm playing, since it's not plausible that my copy or PS4 would be different than anyone else. As I said, I know that I'm less sensitive to it, since you tend to get used to certain limitations when you play solely on one type of system.

I sided with the Brotherhood of Steel, even though they're fanatics. The way I saw it, the institute was creating a race of slaves, slaves with superior abilities to humans. When, not if, the slaves revolted, what would that mean for the rest of mankind? For me, the Brotherhood of Steel were the lesser of two evils. The Railroad? The Railroad was naive.

So, I finished the main story on PS4 and I've only had two significant issues in >70 hours of play, level 45 character. In one mission, I continually clipped through the building I was infiltrating until I reset the game, and toward the end I had a massive frame rate drop (perhaps single digits) that lasted about 30 seconds. That's it. The weird thing about the frame rate drop is that it happened when I was in the mouth of a tunnel with no enemies, but, as I said, it cleared up in about 1/2 a minute. Now, I assume there were other frame rate drops that I missed as it's just not something I'm that sensitive too (been playing on consoles for years and haven't had a PC gaming rig in that time), but definitely nothing I thought hampered gameplay at all. Anyone else have a similar experience? Also, on the day of release, Sony had a system update that I applied before playing. Since many reviewers were reviewing the game before the system update, perhaps the game is running better because of it? Anyway, just wondered if others were having a similar experience, or are you having a bad time? Definitely the best playing Bethesda Todd Howard studios RPG on a Sony platform, in my opinion.

Since I buy digitally, I pretty much only preorder so I can preload the game.
