@Brendan: Signs wasn't about the plot (which was terrible), it was about watching actors be dramatic. It doesn't even really matter if aliens were actually in the movie or not, at least it succeeds in building tension. This all by itself makes it better than most things done by McNight Shamwow.
I cannot bring myself to play through yet another goddamn first person shooter right now, and 4 player co-op through the entire campaign sounds like a fun way to dick around with friends, so Crackdown 2 for me.
@jagenheim: At this point, the option was probably make a first person shooter with tenuous ties to X-Com, or leave the franchise dead forever. So really I guess you have the same choice, either try to enjoy the game for what it is (which I think looks kind of cool so far) or ignore it and pretend the franchise is still dead.
@Terranova: It's just a demo reel pitch, and IF this does go forward as a movie I doubt they'll use any of this footage in the final product. The plot points (i.e. Cage dying) don't really matter, this was just to set a tone and see if people liked it.
