Going to call "lies" on the "Wii Sports 1 to be sold separately" rumour. Here in the UK, pretty much every comes with both Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort. Really can't see them back peddling on that (after all, two games are better than one in the layman's opinion).

" @Delusibeta:  When you say 'goof' are you saying the EA messed up and didn't actually intend to give this game away and that loads of websites spotted this and pretty much told everyone about it? If that's what you're saying then that would explain EA's denial of such an offer, though some of the websites make it look like EA wanted to give it away for a while as it is explained as a time limited offer. "
Precisely. The fact that it seems to be only the UK EA store that was giving the game away suggested to me that it was a mistake. If EA intended to give it away, I'd expect them to have given it away on multiple stores, not just their UK division.

I also got the PC version via the "selling for £0.00" goof, but I haven't installed the patch for it, largely because it breaks the sound of it. I also have the 360 version, but I don't have Gold, so that's out of the question at the moment.

1) If it's on this list, you can register it in Steam.
2) VAC only affects multiplayer games, so your examples listed won't have VAC. At all. Secondly, even with VAC enabled games, you can mod them as long as you don't modify the core files (the .dlls and such like). To use an example from TF2, if the mod installs in steamapps/username/team fortress 2/tf, it won't attract VAC's attention since it's not modifying core files. Your mileage may very, however (Modern Warfare 2 has a strict no-mods policy, for example). I also suspect you are misinformed about the extent of VAC bans: they're only server bans.
3) Depends, although I tend more towards retail.
4) Retail patches depends on the publisher, really. For example, more recent EA games (i.e. Spore and later) will have an automatic updater included with the game. For something like S.T.A.L.K.E.R, however, you'll just have to resort to Googling and downloading the patches from GamersHell or GameFront, or FilePlanet or similar.

" @MysteriousBob: Whats that? "

tl;dr edition: Old games run slower on PAL areas than NTSC areas, due to televisions traditionally running in 25 fps in PAL areas, rather than 30 fps. As a result, motion is juddery in video games designed for 30fps. It appears that MysteriousBob is complaining about this game being faithful to the originals.

" I can't verify this, but a close friend of mine who knows a little about this sort of thing said that apparently Sony where transporting CC info over plain text when you made a transfer, so in theory someone could have just got on your network with a packet sniffer and get all of your info. Scary shit.

Personally, I won't give any more of my info to Sony because of this. If I want to make a purchase online, I will pay for it via the pre-paid PSN cards you can buy in retail stores.
"
The rumour I heard was that the information was in plain text but was encrypted using SSL in transit between your PS3 and Sony's servers, to prevent packet sniffers. The fear was that Sony was storing credit card details in plaintext on their servers, which Sony denied (they however admitted not encrypting personal details on their server).

" I take it MS doesn't want to be outdone in the DLC department by Sony or else they would have charged for this update.  Regardless, I have the PS3 version and as soon as PSN goes back up I will have the PC version as well. "
Pretty much. It seems that the only reason Microsoft will accept for a third party developer to release your DLC for zero moonbucks is that you're releasing the same DLC on the PSN for zero *insert currency of choice here* as well.

" I am really glad this is officially the last GameBryo game to be developped by Bethesda. Here's hoping that Catherine won't have all of those problems. "
Probably not, since it seems to be only Bethesda's implementation of Gamebryo is buggy. I haven't heard many complaints of bugs in Epic Mickey or Splatterhouse, for example.

Note that the PC version of Tales of Monkey Island got a retail release in the UK from Telltale themselves. It would be reasonable to assume that Telltale would want to do something similar to 360 versions. It might be dodging Microsoft's digital distribution rules as well.
