I think the thing with Death Magnetic, is that as an album there's a small batch of 'good' songs and there and a collection of really good parts in other tracks later on, but they're not cohesive and could easily by shuffled into other songs. Its reflective of a larger problem with latter Metallica for me, which is that I think they need an 'editor'. Someone to sit down and just go 'the song is long because you have a couple of awesome sections that you let sit, not because you opened with forty-two different changes'. Of course I'd also love if someone sat Lars down and told him to get out of that rigid 4/4 stomp he always plays.

As a result you just wind up with an album that is too long and aggressively bland with maybe three songs that would be fun to see live. The fact that everyone would rather talk about anything else on the podcast this time around shows it.

Good luck with Hardwired. I still cannot will myself to listen to a whole double albums worth.

I forget when it was mentioned last week, but ranking the Twisted Metal endings would be a good follow-up to this. It might be boring in the first game, because I think those were just static screens full of text. There’s really nothing like the Tekken series, 7’s endings be damned.

You could do some interesting stuff with Twisted Metal 1's endings because they actually did film a few of them. They were included as a bonus feature as part of the Twisted Metal: Head On port for Ps2. I just remember the 989 ones being godawful but how could you miss out on the glory that is Club Kid, everyone's favorite driver.

I will take any amount of ugly neon clusterfuck that this is vs the decade and a half of brown and gritty that videogames were prior.

Does this mean the Homefront soundtrack where they had a bunch of bands do 60's and 70's protest anthems - and a Muse, Metallica, and Slayer cover - is now in play?
