GameStop must be getting antsy

The face of a pioneer?
The face of a pioneer?
News of Burnout Paradise being available for download on the PSN store might signal the end of retailers. I've had some experience downloading some full games off of the Xbox Live Originals so I know that downloading gigs and gigs of data is not that big of a hurdle. So that means that the only obstacle in the way of digitally distributing full titles are old school retail stores.

I think that all publishers/developers are worried that without the marketing and shelf space provided by big box retailers their games will have no chance of succeeding. Burnout will be the pioneer for digitally distributing full games. If enough people buy this then perhaps others will be encouraged to follow. While I have a feeling that this will not put an end to GameStop I do hope that it begins that process. From my experience of buying video games, I can easily say that I will not miss having to go through all of the hurdles to get a game.

The other hurdle that I see is the love for having a box in hand. I too like the feeling of bringing home the box and popping it into the 360 and lining up my shelves. For most people the idea of having a digital copy of something is still a foreign thought. I have made this type of jump of music where I no longer want a CD and prefer downloading all of my music.

I hope that this begins a trend, even if this does not lead to all new games being released digitally at least they can put greatest hit titles on. It gives older games the opportunity to generate more sales instead of just dying in a bargain bin. What do you think will happen after Paradise is released? The fall of retailers? Absolutely nothing? Or perhaps something in between.

Energy Drinks, Yay or Nay?

I was watching the news last night and noticed a story saying that local retailers were to stop selling energy drinks like monster and red bull to people under the age of 17.

I think its a little too far, I am a fan of energy drinks. I do not drink them for their energy giving quality, I drink them because I enjoy the taste. While I will acknowledge the potential dangers of jacking up on caffeine, I don't think that it qualifies a ban. Some will equate energy drinks to other drugs like alcohol and cigarettes. Thats where I don't understand, alcohol effects your motor skill by slowing you down and putting others into danger while energy drinks simply make your more acute. Also, drinks like Nos and Bawls won't kill you like cigarettes. You can tell where I stand, what's your opinion?

Giving gamers a bad name

I'll give you a basic synopsis of this man point. He says that living a quote en quote normal life is pointless. He says that there is no point in going through the effort to building a social life when you can interact with people via a virtual means. While he cites reasons like being able to do things in games that are not possible in games, he's making it seem like a plus that you can both have sex with a hooker and shoot her in the face. This is exactly the type of commentary that gives the impression that all gamers are under-sexed nerds with no social life and a killing complex.
I would imagine that he feels fairly confident in himself but in reality he's just a scared coward. Yea building up a social relationship with a person takes time but then what doesn't? The rewards of having a real life friend outweighs a virtual friend any day. Sure you can meet friends and socialize on the internet but you can't emulate actually hanging out with a friend. What I'm trying to say is that he is the stereotypical nerd that gives gamers a bad rap. I don't know if there is any point to this video but watching just made me mad inside.

What it means to be a winner...

After playing some Free For All on Call of Duty 4 I have learned alot.

1. You must be H4xxorz
Apparently its impossible to kill a person with a gun unless you are some kind of cheating master.

2. Ur a c4mp3r!
Even if you kill the same person in over ten different places you're a bonafide camper.

3. You used the gay gun.
Any gun in your arsenal is extremely overpowered, even if they are using the same gun as you.

I was told that I should keep these tips in mind if I keep playing COD4.

Sometimes, I just hate people on the internet.

I think I'm finally getting it

For some reason I dusted off the PSP to play some Tekken. This was 8 P.M. and I didn't stop till 2 A.M. I fell back in love with this game. Its a great game but its limited by the platform. I have been trying to practice my Bruce Irvin by learning some of the more advance techniques. I have been button mashing and doing okay, but now Im trying to play with some strategy in mind. But the D-Pad aggravates me to no end. I wanna go diagonal but the D-Pad is not sensitive enough to distinguish enough between diagonal and right. Playing more and more, the idea of buying a joystick and Soul Caliber IV become more and more like a plausible decision. Its so damn tough...

Cinema Sunday

Today I went to my friends house and watched a whole lot of movies. Here is the list:

Hot and Saucy
Hot and Saucy
Step Up 2: The Streets

My friends girlfriend recommended this film saying, "Even a dude can like this movie." When you say that to me to begin with I already start out way skeptical. While the story line was fairly predictable the quality of the hip hop dancing was really cool. Also, they put in a whole lot of dancing so it kind of covers up the really mediocre story line. It also does not hurt that the girl on the character is extremly hot. That also helped out my overall impression of this. If you like hip-hop of any kind I would say go rent it; its not necessarily worth the 20$ asking price.

I give it a 3/5.

Karate Kid 2.0
Karate Kid 2.0
Never Back Down

I brought Never Back Down to the party because I heard it was good. Boy, that does not even cover it. I can equate it to a mix between Tokyo Drift and Karate Kid. Basically its the most by the book fight film. You know, the typical revenge tale, sensei, evil kid, musical montages; all the good stuff. The thing I can't figure out is whether it's trying to be ironic or if it takes itself way seriously; either way there is alot of unintentional humor. Like Step Up, I would recemend a rent.

My score 6/5. For any other normal human being its a 3/5.

Fight Club

Mind Shattering!
Mind Shattering!
When I left my friend let me borrow his copy of Fight Club. After seeing it, I'm not sure if I'm ever going to give it back. I finally understand all the praise. It's a classic that any one should own. An intriguing and mind shattering narrative that blew my mind. Go out and buy it now.

5/5

Should I really care?

Hooray?
Hooray?
Browsing Otaku I noticed one story in particular, this story details the name of the actress who will play the sidekick character in Resident Evil 5. This move towards incorporating real people into video games seems to be growing. My question is, why does anyone care. For some reason whenever some writer or actor/actress get involved in a gaming project the game makers feel the need to tout it like a feature. This is not the first thing that made me think of this, when Kojima announced that four models would be modeled in game, I also gave a big, "eh". Perhaps I'm just out of the loop but does anyone care who is modeled in their games?
