Vanquish in a word is awesome

Played Vanquish for a couple of hours yesterday and that game is so crazy but in the best way, some of the set pieces in the game are just fantastic.

The pacing is also spot on with there being no time for filler because of how fast the game moves. Something has to be said about how amazing the game looks, super smooth frame-rate and the art style is striking especially in Act 2.

The game is not perfect, the one hit kills from bosses can get annoying especially when you have a boss down to a 1/4 health and he gets you with a cheap hit. Also the story is pretty bad, I personally enjoy it for how stupid it is but I can see how others won't be able to stand it.

On Act 3 and at the moment if I was going to score it, I would give it a 9

Glasgowbury had so many great bands

I haven't been blogging the past couple of days because I was at a local music festival called Glasgowbury and every band I saw was great. I will share them below with a brief description and a link to find the music:

Wonder Villains: This band can just write great 3 minute pop songs and they are about TV shows and soccer players, I had a hangover when they were playing and they cheered me right up. http://www.myspace.com/thewondervillains

Gascan Ruckus: This band are a awesome punk band that sound like old bad religion, so if that is your thing check them out http://www.myspace.com/gascanruckus

The Rupture Dogs: The sound of this band is close to prog rock but the singer has a Dave Ghrol at his most shouting sort of thing going http://www.therupturedogs.com/

The Bonnevilles: This is a 2 piece band but don't let this fool you because these guys have the sound of 4 people playing. They play garage punk blues rock with a proper rocking kick, one of the best bands I saw at the festival http://www.thebonnevilles.co.uk/

Pocket Billiards: If you only check out one band, please check this guys out. They are a 9 piece ska band and sound like the stuff you got in the early 2000s and they fucking destroyed the stage they were playing. Best band I saw at the festival if only for 10 rows deep mosh pit http://www.pocketbilliards.co.uk/

Swanee River: This band is in the mould of the old rock of the 70s and 80s so if you like that sort of stuff, check them out  http://www.swaneeriver.net/fr_home.cfm

LAFARO: These guys are just an awesome heavy metal band that sound a lot like to QOTSA, they are just plain awesome so check them out  http://www.lafaro.co.uk/

The Answer: These guys need no introduction, they are huge and toured with AC/DC. Unlike the other bands they are signed to a major label so you can easily buy their albums and trust me in that they are all great .

Please at least check out at least one of these bands because they are too good to go unnoticed. Anyway going to play some Vanquish today so you will get my impressions on that soon

Limbo has one of my favourite endings of all time

I didn't talk about the ending when I wrote my impressions on Limbo yesterday but that is because I didn't want to spoil the ending for people who don't know it, and want to play the game.

I have my own thoughts on what the ending means and they are not the same as what everyone else has been saying in the past year.

Anyway not going to mention them here, so if you have finished the game and want to talk about the ending, PM me

Limbo is still a 10

Limbo came out on the UK PSN yesterday so having not played it yet I downloaded it and it's as fantastic as everyone said it is.

I don't want to repeat what people have said because what I love about it has been already said in reviews. But I have to say the length of the game is not an issue for me. It took me 5 hours to finish but I enjoyed every moment of it.

It reminded me of Ico in parts which is one of my favourite games of all time. If you want to call yourself a gamer, you owe it to yourself to check this game out

Band of Brothers is awesome

I have been watching Band of Brothers on Blu-Ray and it's as brilliant as everyone has said it is. I love how they have the stories from the veterans at the beginning of each episode that helps give the show a real levity.

Also at the end of the episode using the real life facts of what happened in the actual event they are recreating is a smart move as well.

If you are like me and somehow never got watching this show, do yourself a favour and pick up the blu-ray boxset

Eden of the East is near perfect

Finally watched all the episodes of Eden of the East and the last 3 episodes were exceptional, really paid off on what the show was trying to do.

That doesn't mean the show is perfect, the music is great but at times it feels the choice of song for a scence is at odds with what is going on. Also there is some bits in the episodes that I didn't dig.

But overall I would give the series a 9 because it constantly keeps you guessing and the animation+production values are top notch.

It's a bit sad that they aren't going to do another season but I still have the 2 films to watch which are close to the length of a series

Memento is Awesome

Finally got around to watching that film for the 1st time on TV and it's as great as everyone says it is.

Don't want to bore people with my thoughts on a decade old film so I will keep it brief. I thought the way they keep the viewer in the dark in the same way the character is was a genius move.

My only problem with it is that because it is in reverse you can kind of tell what is going to be in the next scene but it's still fascinating to see what happens. Also they have the whole other part of the plot in black and white which is all new stuff that you haven't seen before and has a real impact on the film at the end.

The film is exceptional, an all time classic. If you haven't seen it, what you doing reading this just go see it

Eden of the East is a flawless anime show

Sorry I haven't been blogging lately but I was crashing at friends houses for the last couple of days so never really got time to write one. Anyway in that time I watched the first 4 episodes of Eden of the East on Blu-ray at my mate Grant's place and that show is amazing.

I wasn't feeling the 1st episode despite the beautiful art but by the end of that episode I was totally sold on the story the show is trying to tell. The show will be a bit of a slow burn for some people but give it until the 3 episode and you will see why websites like anime news network have been calling it flawless.

The Blu-ray is really cheap on Amazon at the moment with it being around £10/$8 and if you don't want to pay for it,  the production company funimation have put the whole series on youtube. Doesn't matter what way you watch it, just watch it if you have even a passing interest in anime

Rocketter holds up really well

I watched the Rocketter for the first time since I was a kid last night and that film is still great and not just because I remember it as a child, it is actually a great period drama.

The attention to detail of the time period is better than some films that are far more serious than this one. It also has a smart and funny script and all the actors in the film are great.

If you have never seen this film, do yourself a favour and go watch it

Good day out

I went into the city for a day out with friends yesterday and had a great time. I got a couple of great gaming t-shirts and some quality albums.

Don't have much game updates because I didn't play any the last couple of days but check back for my thoughts on UC3 beta
