Videogaming in 2010

I don't feel like writing the blogs or reviews for the games I beat any more, but I still want to keep track of how many games I manage to beat this year. I will keep updating this list as the year goes on.

*Update* - September: This was going so good at the start of the year. I was even beating games like Mass Effect 2 twice....TWICE. Now I'm getting burnt out a bit, not sure how much more I'll beat before year's end.

List items

  • Great single player campaign and an awesome way to work myself into liking first person shooters.

  • Plays the PS3 version of this game, it looks phenominal... still makes me cuss like there is no tomorrow.

  • Really Awesome game, can't wait to see how the story unfolds.

  • I don't why I waited so long to play this damn game!

  • I beat this one 2 times in a row. Should I put this game on my list twice then?

  • I beat The Journey. I thought I only had couple of hours left. That turned into another 30!

  • I love this game. I've beaten it twice and want to go in for a third.

  • The first person shooter-fest continues. The checkpoint system made me swear about as much as a God of War game.

  • The scenery and characters are gorgeous. Also, the best in-game shadows... Ever!

  • Getting myself psyched up about God of War III. I didn't swear as much this time(played it on easy!)

  • A modern day cult classic. If you like fun-campy horror movies, then you'll probably enjoy this game as well.

  • Really showing its age. Starts out slow, the story kinda meanders and that driving sequence at the end should have never existed. Didn't kill the mood enough to make me stop, but only just barely.

  • My first big foray into adventure games, and I really dug into it. It has great humour and did a good job rebuilding my atrophied puzzle solving muscles. Looking forward to even more!

  • I really enjoyed this game for it's story and atmosphere. The combat kinda dragged out towared the end in a similar fashion to the first Uncharted game, but I definately want to return for more whenever the sequel comes out. Let's just hope it's this generation.

  • Although the pacing is a huge step up from the first game, some parts still continued to feel really drawn out, and that's even with me just running through large segments of the game. I'd hate see how long some of that stuff would've taken if I tried to fight the whole way down.

  • Another pacing improvement, this one almost didn't feel like it was dragging out, but the Flood returned to the similar "annoying" status of the first game. Another parallel was the climactic Warthog scene, though with tighter controls and more open area to drive through made it kinda fun this time around.

  • That Chronus part is some of the best gaming I've every experienced, ever! The end felt kind of lacking for the end of a trilogy, and at some points this game made me question if the first game even really mattered story wise. Still was chock full of fist bumping, "hell yeah" moments!!

  • Videogames Live inspired me to return to this classic. A very deep battle and character system that is, unfortunately, hidden. Without a guide, a player has very little chance to experience this game to its full potential and while it has multiple endings, I got stuck with "Final Boss is dead... roll credits!" Almost made want to jump right back in to New Game Plus.

  • Great action, brilliant homage. The enemies were an unrelenting brutality, sometimes it felt just downright unfairkinda in the same vein as Halo). Warpath returned and maintained the reason why he's my favourite Transformer, KABOOM!! The ending was extremely anti-climactic, they totally could've done something more epic that would've fit this game better.

  • Great open world. I like that the side missions never pulled my far enough away from the main story to remove my interest from it. There were a few times where it felt like they just added enemies to make it more difficult which frustrated me at times. A bit of a lock on with the main lightning attack would've been nice and there was only one Karma choice that actually felt like there was a choice to make--the others choices were pretty pointless. The ending was mindblowing and has me stoked for inFamous 2.

  • Loving these games more and more. I need to work a bit on my outside the box thinking, but when I do finally solve something it is a grand ol' feeling.

  • Best One so far, especially in terms of comedy. There's nothing like a mobster in a mascot costume!

  • There's a really engrossing world that they've created here. I really enjoy the anime series I watched some time ago and this is also holding up reasonably well. All that is missing from making it even better is the level gambits that Final Fantasy XII introduced 5 years after this game came out. Given the context, that ain't half bad.

  • Not bad, but largely forgettable. I'm not too keen on the poem or the Catholic religion so a lot of things might've just went over my head-- Plus I'm just more interested in the likes of Greek mythology. Kudos to EA to have the balls to let Dante show his.

  • Good little side story for the God of War series. Was really lacking in the "Jaw Dropping" moments from the mainstream trilogy, but that was to be extpected. Had a really interesting story moment towards the conclusion of the game that made it feel too generic throughout. Kinda short for my tastes, but if I had been playing it on a bus or something, it might've felt longer.

  • I had the same Love/Hate relationship with this game that I had with the God of War series. I managed to beat it on normal(I couldn't find a way to drop it to easy, or I would've), but not without my fair share of curses. The controls were fluid and awesome and give me high hopes for Vanquish when that comes out.

  • This is more of a wrap up, kinda like Persona 3, but I did put another 10-15 hours into it. Such an awesome game. I really can't wait until New Vegas so that I can jump back into the wastelands and kill me some raiders!

  • Damn you, Giant Bomb, for getting me hooked on this. I really like Civilization Revolutions on the PS3 so I thought I'd try the demo, after Ryan talked of it so glowingly. Two hours later, the demo ends on me and leaves me with the videogame equivalent of blue balls. So I just straight up bought the game. I've gone through two round, won one(Haha, suck it Napolean) and lost the other and having so much fun with what I call the original Farmville.

  • So this is where Heavy Rain came from. In that regard, I'm happy that this game happened. Quantic Dream learned so much while making this that it lead to probably one of my favourite games of all time. In this game, however, the QTE's are counter intuitive, so much so that I would keep screwing up because it never felt like it matched the timing of the action. Also, the story got extremely crazy towards the last half, like David Cage lost control of the beast he was writing. Good to see he wrangled Heavy Rain much better. I'd call Indigo Prophecy a neccessary evil.
