It's still a purely cosmetic item, even if they have introduced it in a honey-trap-for-whales kind of method.

It would be better, from our perspective, if everything was available just by playing the game and without having to spend additional money, but at some point Activision has to get theirs. At least they're doing it in a way that doesn't affect gameplay.

I want to like the FOB feature, as I love the invasions in Dark Souls and multiplayer games with stakes, but it's just the lack of information or explanation as to how anything works that makes it incredibly annoying.

I created a base, ran the tutorial, tested against my own base, and that all went swimmingly. Since then, I've researched all the security options, green weapons, and battle dress armour but I have no idea if I've applied them correctly. I went into my FOB's security options, selected one of the struts, bumped the guards/devices all up to maximum, then hit apply to all FOB platforms.

Since then I've been raided about 5 times, always when I'm at work or sleeping, and every time the person has beaten my security at leisure (seemingly) because the replay log is just a string of security staff being neutralised, followed by containers being fultonned. Every single invasion has been on my base development platform, which I assume is because it has heaps of containers? I checked the security on that platform to make sure I didn't miss something, but it all seems to get a decent grading.

I lost 19k fuel (plus various other resources/staff) in the first invasion, the next few were just staff dying with no resources stolen, then the last one I took a hit of 25k fuel plus extras and staff. Of all those invasions, I only have the option to retaliate against two of the people. Every time I get on, I try to invade them and they're either being invaded, or being blockaded after a recent invasion.

Maybe it's the curse of playing in the Australian time zone, and everyone's actively invading/defending during US prime time?

I'm just glad Destiny and Mario Maker are working fine, so I can play those instead of obsessing over why my FOB experience has been so shit.

Yeah I had a similar experience with my first invasion.

The guy ran to the spot where his guard entered reflex mode, I assume because that was showing as my last known position. Luckily I had moved just outside that area to dispose of a guard's body, so I heard him sprinting into position and dropping down. I used the 3rd person camera to spot him without giving myself away, and he was crouched down (probably looking at his iDroid).

I thought it would be a good idea to just unload my assault rifle on him, but all that did was quickly chew through my suppressor and then alert every guard in the place when my gun went loud. The bullets didn't seem to affect him at all, he just turned around and CQC slammed me into the ground, then shot me in the face.

In hindsight, I would've been better off throwing a sleep nade at his feet, or charging him with CQC before he knew I was there. I'll have to try that next time.

I don't think defenders get notified of your arrival until you set off an alarm. I've played total stealth and I haven't yet had a defender show up, but I've only invaded like 3 times and only ever as part of a retaliation. And I'm not sure what you mean by "rocket fuel". The stun rocket arm is infinite use, the batter recharges pretty quick.

I invaded a base which was then defended, and the only thing I did was trigger reflex mode because a guard saw me. I tranqed him before the reflex timer ended, but the defender still showed up.

@teddie: That's a good point, I didn't notice it until now but I can't remember ever seeing him spin a gun in the game so far.

@dukemcfrenzy:You messed up your spoiler tags bud. Just highlight the bit you want to spoil, and click the Spoiler button in the toolbar above the text box.

(Remember to hold triangle when that second prompt appears though or you'll end up falling from a great height and dying as I did numerous times :D)

Ohhhh so THAT'S how you do that. I thought the Triangle prompt was to cancel the fulton. I've been trying to perfectly place the fulton in the centre mass of the container, then freestyle ride it up up and away, which never works and almost kills me each time.

Awesome, trying that tonight.

Are you talking about the box delivery stuff? I think they mention it briefly during the Motherbase tutorial

It took me until today to realise how to get Snake to wear the cool desert scarf, so it's worth mentioning as a tip:

Use the D-PAD to scroll left/right when choosing Snake's costume to check out the options for each fatigue. Naked Rambo chest mode is a great option.
