" @Buck_Sexington said:I do understand what you're saying and you aren't grasping at how rare something like this is, a single person being shot anywhere in the country is headline news. The armed response teams will be trained to deal with situations like this but your regular bobby on the beat will be trained to observe and report the situation because an unarmed policeman going up to a maniac with a shotgun is a recipe for disaster." @LiquidPrince: Of course it's the the police's job to keep people safe but nothing like this has ever happened in Cumbria, how do you propose the police prepare and react to a situation that has never happened before and never been imaginable to anyone the entire country. The police could have possibly caught up with him and attempted to stop him, I don't know but unless it's one of the two armed response teams in the county then you may end up with two or more dead police officers. "I don't think you quite understand what I'm saying. Or rather you do, but aren't grasping what I am getting at. The police train for situations like this. Even if it doesn't happen, a police officer must be trained to be able to handle it, otherwise what good is it to have them in the first place? To have them take old ladies across the street? Whether this happens or not, a police officer must be able to react and save lives. I find it ridiculous beyond belief that this man went around for four hours killing people and harming them, and not only that, but he only stopped once he killed himself. He had to kill himself for it to stop... "
You should also note that the press who just love to blame the public sector when anything goes wrong have said nothing about police response or the amount of time it took track him down.
