My Best of 2017

*UUuuuggggh* I bought so many games this year and played a very small Portion of them. I no doubt believe there were games that got released this year that I'd know I love, it was just I didn't get to them. 2017 was an incredible year for gaming. So many amazing titles... but hey that's not a bad problem to have.

I did get heavy into D&D, Board-gaming.... and well work life took hold.

1-10 (Ranked) will be my favorite this year I enjoyed.

List items

  • I knew this is my game of the year when I would go a day playing something and literally forget everything. I'm not proud that my dumb ass forgot to eat one day. I just... did. Persona was always a cool series I spotted off in the distance, I watched persona 4 being played (Yes it was the endurance run. I liked 4 but I had my issues with it. The dungeons for one did not seem that interesting other them narrative.

Dude Persona 5 was just great, I loved playing it. I think everyone's first persona game stick with them the most. But damn I'd be criminal for me to not be honest in saying this was my standout of the year.

  • March 2017... I waited for this to come for so long, only to have hand surgery on the exact release day. Didn't intend for it to go down like this, but really needed that surgery otherwise I risked loosing function in my hand for the rest of my life.

It was Painful to avoid everyone playing Breath of the Wild while I recovered. But I did it, sorta... (had my incision reopen a little on me, but its more common then i thought.)

I did miss the stronger narrative present in other Zelda titles, and the music was something I wish was better. But getting into this game, the sense of exploration and experimentation really payed off. There are just amazing things hidden in the world you may never find and that's okay.

Everyone made their own story in this entry and that's it's biggest success.

  • You like Gundam? No? Then just skip to the next one.

Okay everyone else, DUDE I grew up on Gundam, the Wing series on Toonami back in the day was my life.

Having over 100 different suits that all feel great. All in very deep, high speed, combat-simulation, fighting games. Just let me have this one guilty pleasure, this game is super niche, but I'm part of that niche. Game is a ton of fun for me.

  • Haiku Review ~

    Team Ninja Combat.

Damn I cut his head right off.

    Oh fuck a Yokai.

  • They did it.

They made Resident Evil Scary again. So I first watched someone play this in VR, then someone on a couch and I even later traded off with a Friend of mine.

Every time was suspenseful, scary, and a lot of fun. I really like how the first person view worked great. The horror varies as you go trough the different areas with each theme having it's own feel. RE7 manages to find new ways of making you uneasy, yet it's so compelling you just have to keep going.

Then the DLC support for this game was pretty damn good as well, I might add.

  • This is strictly on here because of the DLC, War of the Chosen.

Back when XCOM 2 launched, it did NOT run very well for me. From what I heard of the game play I was a bit underwhelmed. So I never really got to it. Then the DLC comes out and pretty much makes the game run better, play better and I found myself enjoying it quite a bit. In my opinion the DLC completes the game.

  • Release Dec 6th 2016... Fuck it, it counts. I really was not expecting to like this as much as I did. Each of your 5 characters play in unique ways in this" Real time Ninja Strategy" game. It all come down to timing and when you pull something off, it feels damn good.

  • NBA Jam: Feels Edition. I've always looked forward to releases from Super Giant games. I love their Art, music, and story. I feel like this game stands out the most from their work and I appreciate that quite a bit.

  • Really liked Nidhogg, wasn't sure if I'd like this as much as the first. But I did, the art style changes add much more emotion to the game and the new weapons really vary it up. It's a super fun game to play with someone next to you, cursing their ass off.

  • A super fun RTS-style game. Plays super fast and is still as frenetic. I
