2020 is almost over and I think the only 2020 release I played was the C&C remaster.

GOTY 2012

Still have to sort and stuff.

  • While it's got some flaws, the combat is great and the environments - while not very complex geometrically - feel vast and alive in a way few of the Elder Scrolls games managed to, especially with the day/night cycle where the nights actually get really dark.

  • It's been a fantastic year for free to play games, Planetside, Tribes and Blacklight: Retribution have all rivaled the fun I've had in full priced multiplayer FPSes like Black Ops 2 or Battlefield 3 during the year. The scope of Planetside is breathtaking, the shooting part is solid and it's the first time probably since Battlefield 2's multiplayer campaign mode there's been the sense that the outcome of every small skirmish has an lasting impact on the larger battle.

  • Jeff's review said it quite well. The singleplayer campaign isn't great, but the game really shines in the multiplayer mode. Even when you end up last in an event, the dumb stunts and crashes, and the way players fuck with each other without being actual dickheads, like what you usually encounter in console multiplayer games, is incredibly enjoyable. Heck, I'm not even all that fond of driving games, and especially the revered Burnout Paradise didn't jive with me much.

  • Along with FTL Giana Sisters proved that the Kickstarter model could work, and apart from that, it was a stunningly beautiful platformer that in most ways outdid the original, even though I didn't really like the changes to the music.
