I left England to live in Canada four years ago and I convinced they'd be gone before I went back to visit (which I've done a few times) I cannot believe they still exist but then I feel the same about EB over here.

I think they got the order the wrong way round. If they 100% wanted to/had to release both this year they should have released titanfall 2 first. That way people waiting for battlefield to come out might have picked it up.

So great to see what it isn't:

No motion control.

No VR.

No 3D.

No touch screen(?)

No 'second screen'.

All those marginal gimmicks gone. (With one new gimmick, the tiny snap on controls, but I think the system can survive if that part flops).

Just a mainline Nintendo game player that you can also take on the go (to at least some extent.

Just make some good games Nintendo! Please!

I came here to post about the touch screen....is that a marginal gimmick at this point? I feel like touch has become so ubiqutious with how we interact with handheld screens now that it's a must have feature. However there was certainly no evidence to suggest the Switch has it.

I'm questioning if this thing even has a touch screen...there was no evidence on that video that it actually does....

I'm both disappointed and excited about where this go. I think he is basically out the mainstream press forever now if this is what he wants to produce. I just think unfortunately the kind of content he creates probably doesn’t get anywhere near as many views as reviews or top 5 funny farts in videogames so then the high cost to keep production values up plus travelling costs is far outweighed by their return on advertising revenue, even if they turned a “profit” then it won’t be as much as boshing out top 5s. Also his kind of content does not lend itself to sponsored content (at least without losing all objectivity) so then how else does it sustain itself?

@sammo21 I think your part of growing crowd and can't help but wonder what the long term viability of this kind of micro subscription is? There is certainly a breaking point though, how many of these can the industry sustain once cobbled in with netflix, amazon prime, hulu, tv provider subscriptions, and your know actually buying games all vying for our disposable income/entertainment money.

If patreon is the way he is going I'll be very interested to see how this goes. Arguably he is the first person to go completely solo on patreon from a big main stream website and try this? I know Kinda Funny did it but there is more that 1 of them the success of that pretty much relied on the whole team going. Jim Sterling has made it work I guess destructoid and escapist are still relatively big.

Also be interesting to see what his content is outside of the point's predecessor , Gamespot seemed to give him pretty free rein to do what he wanted, I'm assuming we can expect more of own streams that didn't quite fit in with them even though they did do plenty of their own random game streams but they do tend to be solely focused on new releases/rereleases.

Great write up. I completely agree about the new way of acquiring a Titanfall and as player who is not so skilled at online shooters it certainly puts me off. There are very few shooters down the years I've piled anything close to a lot of time into (Killzone 2,3 Overwatch and Titanfall are perhaps the only ones) and if this moves closer to a killstreaks model (which punishing you for poor play essentially is) then I'm not sure how much time I will put into this to be honest.
