How I feel about Mass Effect 3 so far

Negativity surrounding Dragon Age II and Mass Effect 2: Arrival

I don't believe this will have an effect on ME3, it seems to have a longer dev cycle than DAII and the fact that Arrival had so little must mean that they are hard at work on ME3. The consensus in the Mass Effect team is that they hit the sweet spot with Mass Effect 2 and seek to improve upon that rather than go for an overhaul like the Dragon Age team did with DAII.

To say that Dragon Age II worried me when things were shown in its development cycle would be a little strong, but I had concerns and these concerns turned out to be true once I completed Dragon Age II twice. It's proof that changing so much that made one game great may come to bite its sequel in the ass. Fortunately this won't be the case with ME3.

Music: Clint Mansell replaces Jack Wall

If it wasn't someone of Clint Mansell's calibur coming in, I'd be very disappointed about Jack Wall going out. The music in Mass Effect has become one of its strongest points and some of my favourite video game tracks have come from Mass Effect 1 ( Main theme track) and 2 ( Suicide Mission track).

I can't imagine that Clint will do anything other than build upon and create more music that makes Mass Effect as cinematic as it is.

Mass Effect 3

I'm not expecting to get everthing I want out of this game storyline-wise, my list for my ideal Mass Effect 3 crew makes that obvious, but the scene that has already been set with The Reapers has got me ready and waiting with my money.

My Ideal Mass Effect 3 Crew

In ME3 some will turn out to be crew members (some already are), some cameo appearances, some mission appearances and some location-specific appearances. I wish the following were permanent Normandy SR2 Crew.

No Caption Provided
1. Tali'Zorah nar Rayya

Primary Squadmate (and GF)

2. Garrus Vakarian

Primary Squadmate

3. Legion

Substitute Squadmate

4. Grunt

Substitute Squadmate

5. Urdnot Wrex

Crew member - Would make for some interesting scenes between him and Grunt

6. Jeff "Joker" Moreau

Crew member - Can't not have Joker

7. EDI

Crew member - One of the best new characters in ME2

8. Mordin Solus

Crew member - Comedy value

9. Kelly Chambers

Crew member - Mail, fish etc.

10. Samara

Crew member - Always be picking Samara over Morinth, the fact that she resists Shepard makes her all the better.

11. Liara T'soni

Crew member - Younger Asari compared to Samara, has unique abilities and knowledge.

12. Thane Krios

Crew member - A mission that finds a cure for Thane would be a nice side-quest from all the Reaper activities that'll be going on in ME3.

13. Kasumi Goto

Crew member - Easily the better pick out of the two DLC squadmates. If my Shepard wasn't a paragon I would let Zaeed burn rather than recruit him.

I think Dragon Age 2 not being as good as expected isn't an issue largely because, to me, Dragon Age is way less interesting a world. I think they can and will do alot more with Mass Effect 3, even just building on what was in the previous 2 games would make a fantastic experience.
I also appreciate that Jack is not on your list of want to see crew members, girls a jerk.

As much as I like Tali, she's not very useful in combat.

All I know is so far is that I am loving everything that I'm hearing thus far! <3 As for my crew, I'd kinda prefer it if they cut down your potential party members down just a notch this time around. One such reason is because I kinda liked the cozier, somewhat more tight-knit team of Mass Effect with only 6. In Mass Effect 2 you had a huge host of personalities, but they didn't really converse with each other all too much, minus the couple of loyalty clash conversations, wherein in Mass Effect, you'd have all six of them altogether for the briefing once you completed a main story mission.

The most prevalent point is how so many of the characters were useless as far as their skills go. I really enjoyed Thane, Samara, Jack, Tali as characters, but far as the gameplay went, they were less than stellar. I've got 5 completed playthroughs, so I've still given them all a chance, though speaking for practicality (such as the insanity run) such picks like Miranda and Garrus and regarded as favourites because they are so much better than the rest. Thane I've still never used for an entire playthrough because he is easily the least useful of the lot.

A smaller roster can help them specify characters own unique skills, strengths and weaknesses much more easily, instead of spreading out a few minor variables like one biotic being able use an assault rifle over the other.  Not to mention how some characters also didn't nearly have as much to say as others; Garrus being so notable that his inability to talk about besides calibrations became meme-worthy.

I'd love for all the characters, that survive, to return; just keep them from all clogging up my Normandy ;P

Just like to reiterate what I've said before. Thane has to die. If he is suddenly cured of whatever crazy fish man illness he has it makes all those great emotional scenes he had with his distant son completely pointless.

But should he die for his sickness or in battle. I hope the latter

Thane has to die, seriously, I'll throw a fit if he doesn't. xD

I really, really hope Wrex is back on the crew as a squadmate or at least involved lots (doubt it with his potential death >.>), he is beyond awesome.
And hey, maybe we finally get to find out Legion's deal if he's back...they kinda forgot to add that whole part in ME2 besides the "Oh Shepard-Commander u so hawt" thing he had.

Y'know, I originally wanted to bone Tali in ME1. I couldn't, so my male Shepard went through the game cold; fucking shit up because he couldn't have that quarian chick (who was in my party, so ehh, whatever).

Then I could, and suddenly realized I really don't like Tali in combat. I think it was some weird juxtaposition thing where she had to be somewhere in my ME experience, and then I couldn't stand her stupid ass drone and annoying voice in combat. Then I bro'd out with Garrus and Mordin. Then I was introduced to this Grunt guy, and his great head-bob + "Shepard" = quite possibly the best character to talk to, at least other than Mordin's big G&S moment.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that there were too many characters that kind of sucked in ME2. Notably Samara, Zaeed, and Jack. Agh, those three were so dull to even listen to and even worse to do loyalty missions for...even Thane had redeemable qualities, what with the whole disease and son and intensive memory thing. Kept me on my toes and created tension within the conversations.

Not to mention their combat abilities. Playing as a soldier I obviously never needed anyone to really get through the game without a brush, so I just ended up picking my favorite characters (Garrus, my bro, and Mordin), relegating anyone that might have been interesting to second tier status. I remember thinking that Samara might have...MIGHT have been bearable as a character up until the point where she is just tits and biotics.

@Hairy_Fish:@Abyssfull:@SirOptimusPrime: No-one, NO-ONE, is faster than Chiktikka vas Paus. Now tell me Tali isn't very useful.

@EuanDewar:
@TaliciaDragonsong:
I'll concede that point about Thane it kinda would make everything with him in ME2 pointless.
