I've heard people talking about how crazy the Metal Gear series has been for all the years I've been visiting Giant Bomb at least. Finally I'm getting it. I mean, MGS was a bit mad but this is another level of bonkers.

@vinny For future information, the grenade does guaranteed 3 damage on anyone in the blast radius, which would have killed the Thin Men so not being in cover wouldn't have been an issue.

Still love this series!

Rorie is imagining things. Everyone likes you guy.

There are definitely people on the site that give him shit because they just don't... like him for whatever reason. However, I think most of us, including myself, love that crazy man. Rorie is one of my favorite dudes on the site. Also, one of the few dudes that will pick stuff up in a game that the others miss and usually all-around good at games compared to the others. Probably from his game guide days.

Before Giant Bomb brought in Rorie, there was a poll on here for "favourite duder related to the site but not a staff member" & as I remember it, Rorie beat Brad Muir in the final

This inspired me to reinstall XCOM. Now, I never actually finished, & I'm playing Enemy Within on Easy because I'm a coward and bad at video games, but man alive it is so damn fun. And yeah, Portent is a really fucking tense mission even on Easy & knowing roughly where the aliens spawn having just watched this the day before.

I managed to do better than I've ever done before despite not having played in 3 or 4 years, somehow, so despite initially moaning about Dan's playthrough, I think it's actually made me more considered & I've learned some stuff (even if it is more just "what not to do"). I just played up to the dam mission which was super fun. I'm loving the Enemy Within content that I'd apparently never seen before. Lost my first & so far only team member on the alien attack on XCOM HQ, my Major 'Hulk', the only Heavy I had ranked up above Corporal. It's the sort of thing that really makes an impact, I lost him because I just got careless, didn't get someone in place to kill an enemy, the wounded heavy did less damage than I expected & boom, he died.

So yeah, XCOM is still bloody excellent.

OK, I'm forgiving because they are all clearly coming back to X-Com without having touched it in years. Obviously you forget how to play optimally. And being on video, there is a pressure to not make it boring so you don't read all the text even when doing so would actually say time. And I was never actually all that good at X-Com & generally when the big Muton blokes got involved my game just fell apart.

Still, Dan sacrificing 2 characters just to save one because of the name was super inexcusable. It wasn't funny or endearing or characterful. Just counter-productive. Fair enough if the character you are being careful with is levelled up, you want to be cautious, but Dan wasn't even that.

And I don't know if I've shouted more than during this series since I was a regularly at my local football team's games. Both Alex building the Workshop where he did & Dan not deleting it were just...I went a bit mad.

Still, it'll be fun to see how Abby reacts to having only 1 of the original 4 left over.

Wheeeeze X-Com action, is it my birthday!

Also holy shit, this website now has too much content, I'm still catching up from E3.

I am on episode 12 of Beast in the East. Have all of Steal My Sunshine & Blue Bombin' & Murder Island to watch. I don't even watch many Quick Looks now because there's so much everything else going on! Hell, I've still only watched Metal Gear Scanlon up to about when Raiden comes in on MGS2!

It's a good problem to have.

Did a game like this way back in the past, with the first Medieval Total War. We played as the Almohads, it was really great & I learned to play the game a lot better because of the pressure of not being the guy who fucks it up for the 7 or 8 others playing.

Is this one of those games with an embargo that you can't show past a certain point? I come away from this video feeling like we need a follow-up that shows the "actual" game, because all we did here was watch 90 minutes of cutscene. It doesn't really inform my buying decision any more than the back of the box.

90 minutes of cutscenes seems like an accurate showing off of a Persona game though.

It's an anime wrapped around a JRPG with some dating sim hooks. Although if I hadn't watched the Persona 4 endurance run I'd have heard that description & gone "anime? Nope. JRPG? Nope. Dating Sim? Nope" so maybe my reductive description of the game is totally useless after all.

Anyway, I really want this. Although I don't have a PS3 or PS4 so I won't get to play it. Sigh. I remember them talking like this would come out on the 360, the only console I do have at one point, and got excited that I'd actually get to play it.

Action Fighter on the Master System was one of my favourite games as a kid.

I'd totally forgotten it exist until now and then the music started & it's a nostalgia ride.

"It's kind of a Spy Hunter ripoff."

*discordant butt tune starts playing*

Well at least the music is original.

YOU DRIVE INTO A SEGA LORRY THOUGH

@illrepute: Then maybe put out a call for people to join them so they can do proper coverage? This still seems awfully damning.

It is awfully damning. It's also useful consumer advice. "Hey, this multiplayer shooter has no players, it's probably not a good idea to buy it"

Ultimately it is not the responsibility of the games press to ensure the optimum conditions before covering a new game. Yes, they could put out a call for people to join them, but is that actually "proper" coverage? Most people don't have the 150,000 Twitter followers of a Jeff Gerstmann to gem up enough players to make one of these games playable. And if a developer is asking for money from consumers then it's useful to actually know if you can play the bloody thing.

Is it a harsh that a devs hard work, blood, sweat & tears gets dismissed in such a way? Yes, it is. But it's also entirely fair. We've known for years that the Steam marketplace & other virtual stores are overcrowded & terribly curated, that just being a good game is not enough to rise to the top of the pack. A developer's naivete on their passion project isn't actually an excuse to overlook the fact their game is in effect unplayable.

It's really funny how mad people get about Dan. You silly people.
