What do I want from games journalism? Nothing, it's done little to nothing of value for me and the only time I end up in conversations about it it's because of some awful childish us against them kind of back and fore that ends up with the worst aspects of humanity on show.
I play games as a hobby because I like them, they are a fun pastime when I get home from work and have a couple hours to myself. I don't want to be a part of some black and white good vs evil war over sexism, representation, artistic merit, violence, kirby being pink or white, but there seems to be this idea of if I don't pick a side on the extreme wing in any of these arguments that I'm part of the problem and am lumped in with the worst of those involved on either side an old if I don't support the troops then I must support the terrorists kind of thing, damned if I do, damned if I don't.
I just want the incredibly insular and increasingly inbred gaming 'journalism' clique and the depths of human vileness that are harboured on the internet that do battle against one another to not be some giant either/or that I have to side with just so I can come home and play some damned Pac-Man Championship Edition and identify as being interested in games.
The not being worried talk reminds me about the appeasement. Talk about it not being your problem until Putin is at your doorstep with Kalashnikov.

I believe that in the period where European Union member nations have slashed their military budgets by up to half in some cases Russia has increased theirs by 20% steadily, Military analysts for the EU predict that it's member's ability to stop a full blown russian invasion should it occur look very shaky.
reading about it just kinda leaves all sides involved sounding childish and losing respect. Phil Fish's tweets about cancelling projects cracked me up though, how do you tweet that and then be suprised that people like goading you into some kinda social media nerd-hulk state?
@jasonr86: Riot Games themselves set up a lot of the structure for collegiate level teams and foot the prize money themselves at the higher levels and it's a split in the contract between money to the college and the players. There's a booming industry in setting up tournaments for things like these and league gets a lot of interest as it has a very defined path to becoming a salaried player on a team and Riot games are supporting that from the bottom up to the top.
@alexw00d: I think what people are getting at is not that this piece of work is completely separate from being a game but that the original intent wasn't to set out and fulfill what a lot of people would be looking for from a 'game' experience, they intended to create an ambient experience wherein streamers would unveil and promote hype for a reboot of the silent hill franchise not display the features of the game or deliver an experience that everyone can get along with. I'm saying that if we demand anything that game creators do in their creative medium needs to adhere to a strict tenet of this is what a game is and isn't and should provide then it limits their ability to do interesting things outside showing gameplay or scenes from the product.
The piece of work had an intent, to be an interesting way of revealing a project in the works, not to release a game per se. We can argue about how successful the piece was but I think the fact that people are talking about silent hill again is proof it's working on at least some level.

You are the only person in this thread who is arguing that it's a game. The entire premise of your argument hinges on us believing it's a game, and nobody here thinks it is a game.
The only reason anyone has given for this not being a game is 'uh it's a teaser man'. That's not a valid reason. At all. A game can still be a teaser and a game, just like a short film (or fuck, even a feature length film) can still be a teaser and a film. This whole 'it's not a game it's a teaser' thing is a crock of shit that merely exists to shut down differing opinions, pretty much like you're doing.
A game CAN still be a teaser and a game, doesn't mean it HAS to be. Let's not stifle creativity just because some of us think it should still conform to the idea of a playable demo when interesting ideas could come from this kind of marketing.
You're telling the creator what his product is after he's already told people it's something else and then saying that people thinking differently than you are shutting down differing opinions after telling them that their creator given reasons aren't valid and can be ignored for the purpose of your argument in turn shutting down differing opinions yourself.
@dusker: You're bringing a predisposition to your argument and generally ignoring the facts which most people are stating to you. This 'game' (read: interactive trailer) was designed to get people talking about a dead game series that even the fans had stopped caring about and really only open itself up to people who are streaming (a good way to take advantage of the current way that gaming coverage is consumed) and to show how good looking things are in engine and that the developers know creepy.
What it is not intended to do is show in any way what the actual gameplay will be like in the Silent Hills game as that is a game that won't be looking to obscure and tease itself as it's already in your hands. Your awful burger analogy doesn't stand in this instance, more like, you're looking at an advert for a burger place where a person says "if I don't have another one of those great burgers soon I'll die" then expires and your response is to think that the burgers will actually kill you if not consumed regularly.
Having read your first thoughts I really don't think you understand what you want and are tunneling way too hard on the idea that this teaser trailer they made that can be actually played with a controller is a 'game' if I was to call your post a novel that critiques the gaming industry and problems with development and marketing then complained it was too short, badly researched and full of opinion then everytime you came and said "hey buddy, it was only some thoughts in a forum post" and I replied "Fuck you it was an awful novel because I'm calling it a novel and comparing it in that fashion!" you'd notice I was being insane and calling an apple an orange, that's what you're doing in a pearls before swine kinda way.
What you've seen is a puzzle box to hide the reveal and an image of a guy I didn't recognise walking down a street, wait till we see actual substance before you condemn it eh?
