I think that's perfectly fine, not being excited about it. I've actually had the exact opposite reaction. A multiplayer FPS is the antithesis to what I usually enjoy. But I tried the alpha (because hey, a free demo, why not) and for whatever reason the game just clicked with me. Both game play and game world. I had a lot of fun. The same went for the beta. While I found that less exciting, I didn't mind replaying the same bits again (which I usually abhor in any game). I enjoyed the feel of the game play enough to get past that. And now I'm looking forward to next week.

But just as the game clicked with me for whatever reason, I can certainly see someone else not quite liking it for similarly ethereal reasons.

I've somehow managed to avoid their work previously (shame on me), but I like what I've seen/heard so far this week. Welcome!

Games right now: Ryse, Titanfall, Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare, Spartan Assault

After over thirty years I'm just now realising that multiplayer can be kind of fun, so feel free to add me.

It's only a few years off, too. Truly, Gary Larson is a prophet.

So I just got an email with a few beta keys for Nosgoth (the multiplayer only game we're getting instead of a proper continuation of the Legacy of Kain series) to give to friends. Since I don't have any friends (who are interested in playing this game), I thought some people here might be interested. PM me and I'll give you a key. I'll post an update once I'm out of them.

HOWEVER. To avoid a repeat of last time I did this, there's a condition. I won't give out keys to people who join the forum today simply to ask for a key. But everyone who's been around for more than a day and has more than a non-zero number of posts are of course welcome.

As for the game itself, I've had kind of fun playing it. Although I have barely played any multiplayer games for the past fifteen years, so maybe it's just the novelty.

This past weekend I bought a Macbook Air (the first time I've owned a Mac so I'm still in the process of figuring out keyboard shortcuts and other fun stuff like that). Now I got it for writing on, and doing other work related things, not gaming. But hey, I'm a gamer at heart, I can't resist trying it. So having installed Civ V yesterday, and managing to almost completely drain the battery in two and a half hours, I'm getting a sense for the limitations. E.g. I've uninstalled Civ and will stick to playing that and other more resource intensive games on a PC. Probably a good thing, I want to get work done rather than feeding my Civ habit. It ran great though, had it not been a battery vampire it would have been perfect.

But I'm still curious if anyone has suggestions for less demanding games that might be suitable for a Macbook Air? At the moment I have installed Dungeons of Dredmor and GhostControl Inc. The latter came out on Steam last Friday and is basically a turn based Ghostbusters game. It's not great, but kind of fun in short sessions.

At 32, so far I've found basically three things I don't mind drinking; cider, screwdrivers and saké. And even then nine times out of ten I'd prefer a coke to any of that. Alcohol isn't for everyone.

I fell into the damned trap of curiosity and bought one of the founders packs for Nosgoth. I rarely play multiplayer games but it seems decent to me. I'm having fun at least, even if I'm not very good.

Anyway, since I bought the pack I now have four beta keys to give away, if anyone wants them. PM me and I'll send one to you.

As part of the pack I also got a Warband name reservation thingy. Basically I can reserve a name for a clan for when they implement that feature. Anyone interested in making a Giant Bomb one, and if so, any suggestions for a good name?

I just spent a couple of hours playing the game, plus an hour and a half last night. It's definitely growing on me. The gameplay reminds me of a cross between Kingdoms of Amalur and Dark Souls. You can easily switch between fighting styles like you would in Amalur. I.e. between "warrior" (fighting with a sword) and "ranger" (dual wielding daggers). But you need to pay a more attention to the enemy attacks than you did in that game, learn their patterns. I doubt it's as difficult as Dark Souls (I haven't played much of DS), but it's certainly not easy. I've died more times than I care to admit in my three and a half hours so far. Of course I'm not terribly good at games, but still.

I'm also liking the writing far more than I expected. They do a pretty good job of giving the characters different personalities, and there's some amusing dialogue. Yes, there's swearing, but so far only from the characters you would expect (e.g. the mercenaries). So far I don't think it's gotten out of hand. It might be slightly heavy-handed, but it does help make the different characters distinct. And I do appreciate a generic fantasy RPG where I can actually tell the NPCs apart.

Someone already said Arcanum 2, and for me that easily beats anything else I could come up with. The original was as if someone invented a setting just for me. It had its technical issues (and I don't remember it looking all that good even for its time) but more than made up for it through its story and setting. I'd trade Pillars of Eternity or Torment: Tides of Numenera for a new Arcanum in a heartbeat. And I'm saying that as someone who is hugely looking forward to both those games.
