Ranked, Pre-2022 Games Played in 2022

This is my ranking of the games I played for the first time in 2022 that came out before 2022.

List items

  • To be fair, I played the PS5 version after a lot of bugs had been fixed. If this was the game that came out at launch, it easily would have been up for GOTY. This game is gorgeous, fun and I cannot stop playing. Even after finishing the game, I went back in to get the platinum which includes doing every "gig," which is to a side mission what a side mission is to a main mission. It's been a long time since I have played an open world RPG and didn't reach the point of, "I'm ready to be done, let's just finish the story."

  • This game was an emotional JOURNEY. Fantastically done. Wow. I think this was better than Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy. It would have been my #2 game in 2021 if I had gotten around to it then, just behind Resident Evil Village.

  • Specifically, this is Monster Prom XXL. Wow. This game is hilarious. It only takes 30-60 minutes (depending on length you choose) to play through a run. I'm not sure if it's highly replayable, or I just want to see all of the things, but the repeats lose effect.

  • Really enjoyed playing this with my wife. Played through multiple episodes and had a blast playing co-op NES Castlevania. Highly recommend.

  • Holy cow. This game was really interesting and didn't over stay it's welcome. Had the right level of creepiness without feeling like too much. Interesting story.

  • It's like they took the gameplay from Doom 2016/Doom Eternal, but made it good! They also made a grappling hook that is way better than Halo Infinite's. This game was a lot of fun.

  • This is the most relaxing game I think I have ever played. There's something so cathartic about playing this on easy and kicking someone in the head until they collapse into a pile of unconsciousness. I don't think there's another sports game that's fun at lower difficulties. Winning in Madden 100-0 or something is really boring. This has not gotten boring yet. The pre-game hype make me think, "Haha. This computer AI thinks they have a chance. Now they have brain damage."

  • This game is bat crap insane. The story is wild, and the gameplay is a lot of fun. Slicing people up gets really cool.

  • Played through this with my wife. It was difficult, but surprisingly soothing a lot of the time. Some times the game was BS and broke its own rules. Overall, a lot of fun.

  • This was an adorably fun platformer and free! Totally forgot to play this in 2020 when I got the PS5. I see why it was on so many people's top ten games of the year.

  • This is the sequel that took everything from the first game and made it better (or scrapped it). I had a lot of fun with this.

  • Played DDLC Plus. This certainly went in interesting directions.

  • Never heard of these games until recently. Fun, short side scrollers.

  • A top-down horror game where you play an exorcist. I had a lot of fun with this, but there are definitely areas that it could be better. Would totally play a sequel.

  • This is good, but something about it is just not as charming as the first game. I can't quite put my finger on it.

  • Watched my wife play this, while providing some help against certain bosses. It was super cute and she really enjoyed it.

  • This was pretty fun. It went on a little too long though, but I liked how it rounded out some of the lore.

  • This was a fun, cute game. About 2 hours long, which was the perfect length. It's like a significantly less stressful Minit. Lots of fun!

  • This was a surprising amount of fun. Again, rewind made it better than it would have been otherwise, because it's full of that NES shenanigans.

  • Wow! This game had a lot of fantastic ideas and concepts! It was bogged down with way, way, way too many fetch quests. It was really cool though. Turning into a dragon was awesome.

  • This was a fun adventure. It was an interesting little story. I enjoyed my time with it.

  • This was a fun puzzle game. I enjoyed it, but it went on slightly too long.

  • A 2D, level based Castlevania game that I had not previously played. It was a 2D, level based Castlevania game.

  • This game was really cool. You can crouch AND run at the same time. Played it on NES Switch Online, and without rewind this would have not been as fun.

  • A short, chill horror game made like a PS1 game. I enjoyed my time with it.

  • It's such a breath of fresh air to see a free game not bogged down by ads or trying everything to get you to spend your life on it. One puzzle a day, just a few minutes to play. I played a lot of Lingo 20 years ago on game show network's game website, so this has been a little bit nostalgic as well.

  • This is definitely how you make a sequel to My Name is Mayo. There were fun little mini games to help with the clicking.

  • Hard to split GC 1 & 2 apart. Had fun with them. Took about 90 minutes to beat both.

  • This was cute, but ultimately I got bored. I don't think point & click adventures are for me, but I loved all the cat puns.

  • This was cute and fun. It only a couple hours long, but that is just fine. It stayed the right amount of time and had some fun variety.

  • It's interesting to have a siren in a horror game. I kept expecting this game to build to something, but it just kind of doesn't. It was alright.

  • Chill game, ran a little long in the tooth, but only by an hour or so. Also, I thought the game was really dark (lighting not tone) at points. I later realized that my tv settings were messed up. I think I would have enjoyed certain sections more if I had thought to check.

  • This game felt like an endless series of fetch quests. I thought it was going to be scary, but it wasn't. It's kind of killing my interest in a remake as well as in Calisto Protocol.

  • Simple, but well designed. This was fun.

  • This format was not for me. It felt more like 8 mini games in one. They were well done, but just felt lacking.

  • Got this free. It was decently fun to play through.

  • This was a fun NES Online title to spend an hour with. Rewind helps.

  • For as dumb of a concept as this game is (click a jar of mayo, change its outfits to continue the "story"), I actually had fun with it.

  • This was alright. Short space SHMUP.

  • It was ok. Short game that would have been really annoying if I hadn't played it with rewind on NES Switch Online.

  • This game was not very good and too long (even at less than 90 minutes). It was free though. Would rather play it than more Star Fox.

  • Played this for the Super Switch Club. It's not good. As I add this, the question becomes, is it worse than Halo Infinite? Boy, it's pretty close, but this game is much shorter, so it gets the edge.

  • This game is unnecessarily hard. Thanks to the Switch Online Expansion with rewind and save states, I actually played through the whole thing for the Super Switch Club. It has moments that are fun, but it has too many unnecessarily difficult things. Still better than Halo: Infinite.

  • Garbage. Absolute garbage. Whoever was in charge of the campaign should be fired.
