Three games you need to watch:

Here are some games that the average person might not be really psyched about, but are coming out within the next year or so.

Mafia II: This game fell off a lot of people's radar after E3, but I've seen some recent interviews, and a trailer that really have me pumped for this game. it looks like GTA IV with pumped up graphics, and maybe some new interesting gameplay mechanics. Still definitely check this out.

Diablo III: I know a lot of people are psyched for this game, but we know it is going to be released atleast a year or more from now, but after seeing some excellent stuff come out from Blizzard, paticuarly how entertaining the gameplay promises to be, you need to get this game. If you aren't holding you breath for this came start burning oxygen now, because this will be awesome.

Star Wars the Old Republic: This game is around a year or so away, but some recent stuff that has come out, showing the MMO Co-Op capabilities for speech, battles, and interaction, really...really has me hyped for it. I think that if everything they've laid out for the game: The complete CO-OP with any body. 10 separate stories with 10 different classes with 10 different voice actors for the classes and with 100,000 voices in the game, then I think it will be the most groundbreaking MMO game of all time, even surpassing WoW.

Anyway....my order of Madden 2010 has not come, despite being order shipped a week and a half ago. I beat Shadow Complex, and loved it. Saw inglorious Basterds and...LOVED IT. Reviews for both tomorrow.

Peace!!

You gotta try this game!!!

I'm not a platformer fan at all. I never liked the Old Metroid and Castelvania games, but YOU NEED TO PLAY SHADOW COMPLEX. I played about an hours worth of the game, and could not stop playing it. The game is very...very well done. It is clear that Epic games (GOW Devs) had a lot to do with the development of this game, because everything from the difficulty settings to the way that achievement and leaderboard info pops up during the game, is very EPIC like.

The gamplay is like a platformer, but they implement mechanics that make it feel fresh and new.

The graphics are excellent, and I can really see myself playing this over and over again on difficulties, and not just for completions and achivements.

I never once felt like I was playing a downloadable arcade game. This game felt like I had physically walked into gamestop and paid for it.

You owe it to yourself to check this bad boy out!!!

BTW I get Madden 2010 tomorrow, so we'll see how that turns out.

The five games you have to have in 2009

2009 has turned out to be a quite a crazy year for gamers like myself. Tons of delays to the overcrowded 2010 have really left us gamers with very little on our plate. But don't worry...I am here for you. I will now tell you the five games of 2009 that you have to have and why:

NOTE: I'm speaking as an owner of a 360 and PC, that's why there are no PS3 exclusives on the list.

5. Dragon Age Origins:

Dev: Bioware
Platforms: Xbox 360, PS3, PC
Release: Nov 3, 2009

WHY:
The name Bioware should be enough of an attraction for gamers. Bioware, the developers of Baldur's Gate, KOTOR, Jade Empire, and Mass Effect, now bring you an Action RPG very simliar to Baldur's gate. The visuals look amazing, and the blood and gore, looks especially satisfying. You know the story will be there, because its a Bioware game. The gameplay looks fun and innovative. This is definitely a game you need to pick up.

4. Alpha Protocol

Dev: Obsidian
Platforms: Xbox 360, PS3, PC
Release: Oct. 6th 2009

WHY:
Obsidian entertainment, developers of Neverwinter Nights 2, and KOTOR 2, are making Alpha Protocol, a spy action RPG, that is trying some new mechanics in story telling and decision making. The game gives you a time limit to make your decisions in, which adds a whole new depth of realism. if the gunplay and hand to hand fighting holds up, then I think that this game can be an excellent RPG full of a good story and fun to play.

3. Borderlands

Dev: Gearbox
Platforms: Xbox 360, PS3, PC
Release: Oct 20th, 2009

WHY:
I was not that hyped for this game even though it was being done by Gearbox. I thought that it would be another shooter, but after seeing several previews, I was proved wrong. Borderlands has a really amazing art style it looks like really cool pre-visualization that you never see in a game, but it has it. There are over 650,000 guns in the game, which is really...really astounding. The gameplay looks excellent, and something that I thought really held Fallout 3 down, was that the shooting and combat was not really satisfying except when in VATS, so this game has potential to be better than Fallout 3. If the story keeps you interested, and the action is satisfying then Borderlands can really have opportunities to shine.

2. Assassin's Creed 2

Dev: Ubisoft Montreal
Platforms: Xbox 360, PS3, and PC
Release: November 11th, 2009.

WHY:
Assassin's Creed was a very great start to a series that really has unlimited potential, but was hurt by repetitiveness and lack of variety. This was the major complaint of most gamers. Ubisoft looks like they have listened to the community, and has taken the same formula, and expanded it into something very fresh and new and varied. The gameplay looks very improved, and the story looks even better, and I look forward to seeing what else happens to Desmond. If you were a fan of the first game definitely get this, if you were turned off by the first game, I'd still try this. Possilbe GOTY candidate.

1. Modern Warfare 2

Dev: Infinity Ward
Platforms: Xbox 360, PS3, PC
Release Date: Nov. 10th 2009

WHY:
Does this game really need explaining??? Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare was a game that took us all by storm, and was the best game of 2007. Now infinity Ward and Activision dance again  for Modern Warfare 2. The story picks up where Modern Warfare left  off. You play as Roach and your commander is Soap, the character you played as in Modern Warfare. The story looks excellent and is said to be longer than Modern Warfare, which was one issue with Modern Warfare. The multiplayer looks excellent and seems to be adding a lot of stuff to make it new and not repetitive. Every gamer MUST get this game. This will be a game that people will play four years from now.

So there you go....Hopefully I made my points clear enough for you.

Played Splosion man loved it. Reviewing it later.
Got Dark Corners Gears 2 expansion. Liked it...Impressions later.
Ordered Madden NFL 2010 from this really great offer. You get Madden NFL 2010, 26 issues of Sports Illustrated, and the John Madden hall of fame DvD...All for $50...you'd save $10 on buying Madden...so I did it.
Go here if you're interested.

Peace...
Happy Gaming.

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince...was it that good?

Here's my opinion:

Summary:
Finally a HP Movie that captures the same magic as the books

*** This comment may contain spoilers ***

Before I review the book I'll tell you that I am a huge...huge Harry Potter fan, and that The Half Blood Prince was my favorite HP Book (until Deathly Hallows of course), all of my hype and love of the stories aside, this is the first Harry Potter movie that captures the same feel of the books, and is technically stellar at the same time.

Premise: The movie opens with Bellatrix Lestrange's almost inaudible voice shouting "I KILLED SIRIUS BLACK!", and Dumbledore taking Harry by his arm, and escorting him past the reporters. That moment sets the tone for the whole movie.

This year Harry faces more than the Dark Lord, death eaters, and exams. He faces the inner conflict about how he is in love with his best friend's sister. Meanwhile Dumbledore is giving Harry all the information he needs to know to once and for all defeat Voldemort. Harry spends the majority of the school year trying to learn what Professor Slughorn told Voldemort, and how he can tell Ginny how he feels about her, without his best friend cutting his throat. While this happens,Ron and Hermione are drawing ever closer, until Ron falls for a really crazy girl named Lavender Brown. Hermione becomes insanely jealous, which makes for one really amazing scene, where Emma Watson becomes Hermione and really pours out her heart.

Review:

Directing: Best so far I liked what I saw from David Yates in the Order of the Phoenix, but I thought there was a lot more potential from him. He really gained confidence this time around. He is not afraid of CGI's boundaries, and is very good at what to keep in the film (for the most part.) Even in interviews, he is much more outgoing and confident about the film.

Acting: Best yet

Thinking back to 2001, if you look at the three kids Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint, and look ahead to 2009 where they have grown tremendously, and have really evolved into the characters that they were cast for, then you realize what a brilliant job Chris Columbus and David Heyman did at casting these kids. Well "the kids" are back, and they are all very good in this installment. Daniel Radcliffe has really embraced his role as the sarcastic and funny, yet selfless and loving Harry Potter. He delivers his comedic lines very well, and is much better this time around in the emotional parts, though I feel he could be a tad better. Emma Watson is best out of the three, as the brilliant, beautiful, and kindhearted Hermione Granger. She has really grown into one of the prettiest teen celebrities alive today. One of my few issues with this film is that Rupert Grint, a very talented actor, possibly the most talented of the three; who plays the funny, ambitious, but goodhearted Ron Weasley; seemed to really only be along on the ride for comic relief. They still all did a commendable job.

The other actors are even better. Tom Felton, who plays the big talking and pompous brat Draco Malfoy. Felton finally gets his chance to shine in this movie. Although a lot of his acting consists of him not talking, and him just sneering, he does a good job. Bonnie Wright, who plays Harry's new love interest Ginny Weasley, is very good, and has grown a tremendous amount as an actor, since having that one line of "Good Luck" in the Sorcerer's Stone. Evanna Lynch is mystifying as Luna Lovegood. She does an awesome job of playing a very interesting character. Michael Gambon achieved something in this film, that I thought he would never be able to reach. Until this film my mental picture of Dumbledore, was of the late Richard Harris. But after seeing Gambon's heart rendering performance as the old, wise, and loving Dumbledore in this movie, he will always be the one I think of. Alan Rickman gives his best interpretation of the sinister , secretive, and deceptive Severus Snape. He uses these wonderful pauses in between lines, and captures the secretive nature of Snape, that the books convey. Helena Bonham Carter, who plays the seductive, twisted, and demon-like Bellatrix Lestrange is again excellent. At the end of the day though, Jim Broadbent takes home the Oscar for this film, and should get a real one come March. Broadbent plays the greedy, self centered, but kind Professor Slughorn. The facial expressions he creates are truly excellent. His interpretation of Slughorn is bar none the best any actor has done in the Harry Potter movies, and even better than Imelda Staunton's Umbridge.

Cinematography: Truly Oscar worthy Bruno Delbonnel, the new director of photography, has created a visual masterpiece. The camera angles, the lighting, the shadows, the tones, everything is perfect.

Visual Effects: Top Notch Again. Why haven't any of these movies won Oscars for visual effects. The CGI is breathtaking, and extremely convincing, especially the opening scene where the Muggle bridge comes down.

Score: Original and well done. Nicholas Hooper has improved open a score that was a little lacking in Order of the Phoenix. Very little remains of John Williams original score for the first several films. Hooper creates a funny, chilling and epic score for the entire film.

Issues: Few but there are some:

One: Rupert Grint  never seems emotionally in touch with the rest of the cast, and it is almost like his character doesn't realize the gravity of their situation.

Two: They really should have shown Dumbledore's funeral. That was the most emotional part of the entire book, and I thought the movie ending seemed very lacking, because Ron sat on a step as Harry and Hermione over looked the Castle and talked about their journey.

This was the first Harry Potter film that was real and believable. Hogwarts seemed like a functioning high school, with kids making out in the halls, and gossiping during meals. Yates has made all the right choices, and finally makes a HP movie that is able to cast the same magical spell as books.

9/10

Top Three Games of the Year...

Well after just finishing Resident Evil 5, and realizing that it is one of the greatest games of this generation, I was thinking of the top 3 games of 2009 so far...

In my book they are:

Dawn of War II- The best Fantasy RTS since Warcraft 3, and it was an awesome addicting experience. If I didn't convince you here...try my review.

Infamous- Explosive gameplay, fast paced action, a great story with great twists, good visuals, and an overall awesome experience.

Resident Evil 5- After just finishing it [ten minutes ago] I can honestly say that Resident Evil 5 is one of my favorite games of all time, and one of the three best of this generation. The graphics are amazing. The action is so addicting. I shat my pants every other minute. The story was so well done, and really ended the series well. The whole "I don't think I'm going to make it" feeling is so awesome, and the game is so much fun to play, you have to play this.
What do you think?

Next after a great week at E3 (Thanks Giantbomb) I was thinking about what Five  games look the most impressive, not necessarily most anticipated, but games that I saw and went "wow" over.
Here's my list:

Mass Effect 2-  Bioware is going to make a shitload of money over the next two years, and this will be one of the many reasons why. The visuals look like a real movie. The dark gritty feel to the game looks incredible. The combat seems much more refined. All the technical issues I had with the first game look to be fixed, and the story looks simply amazing.

Splinter Cell Conviction- Didn't even know this was being made, but after seeing the stage demo, my mind is changed. They are completely reworking the franchise, and making it so much better. This isn't my most anticipated game, but I was really...really impressed by what they've done with the game, and how they've taken cut scenes out of the game, and focused on story telling from the wall.  Cannot wait to see more, and I am really excited about what tomorrow brings for this game.

Star Wars the Old Republic- WHAT A TRAILER!!!!

After watching that awesomeness...I have several things to say.
WOW...
HOLY SHIT...
DAMN THAT WAS REAL GOOD....
BIOWARE NEEDS TO PAY THEIR TRAILER PEOPLE MORE....
The whole game is going to be fully voiced by your  characters, and every single character in the game will be voiced. They also said each of the ten classes will have their own individual  story. I was not expecting much, but HOLY Shit it looks awesome.

Assassin's Creed 2- Great trailer. They've made some excellent more realistic gameplay improvements which look to make for a more fun experience. If they make the game less repetitive, and more fresh and exciting as you progress through the game, then this will be one of 2009's best.

MW 2- I am a little biased here, but I am a huge Call of Duty fan. MW was another great game from this generation. This game looks even better. I love how Soap (your dude from the first game) is now the guy you are playing as in this game.  The visuals look much improved. If the multiplayer can be amped up even more. With a longer single player, that is just as exciting as the first game, then you're looking at another awesome shooter.
What do you think?

So I'll have a VLOG tomorrow, and a review of Resident Evil 5 on Wednesday...
See yall
happy gaming..

E3: Day One Wrap up

Well what can I say...

A lot actually.
I watched all of Microsoft's press confrence, and I watched most of EA's. So far the best moment of this E3 is without a doubt the Monkey Island Announcement. When I was four I would go to my next door neighbor, and we would take turns playing it and figuring out the puzzles...well he just finished his Freshman Year of College, but he's as excited as I am.

If there is one underlying theme for games for this year, then I think the answer is better story telling. Every single game I saw that had a story to it, was trying new ways of telling stories. Whether it was Modern Warfare 2 where everything take place without any cut scenes, Splinter Cell Conviction where everything takes place on the wall, or Halo 3: ODST, where the story is a puzzle of different ODST's stories in New Mombasa.  Developers are really looking to revolutionize the story telling capabilities of video games, and I loved the way everything looked.

Quick Highlights Gaming Wise:

- Modern Warfare 2: Looked incredible. I wasn't even playing, and I could feel the tension mounting. Infinity Ward is a master developer.

- The Epic Games XBL arcade game (WTF is it called)- looks pretty good. It looks quick and fun, not much to say about it.

-Monkey Island: HOLY SHIT!!! I JIZZED IN MY PANTS FROM IT!!! IT looks so great... I cannot wait to play it.

- Splinter Cell: Conviction: Totally caught me off guard, wasn't expecting Jack Shit from it, and I loved what I saw. The action looks crisp and fresh. The story telling all takes place on the wall, including your objectives, so there is never a moment where the action stops for you.

- Halo 3: ODST: This was another surprise for me. I thought I was going to see...just another Halo game, but this looks special. The gameplay looks much more like a Rainbow Six Vegas Game, and I think that having a more vocal protaganist will do the game some justice. Also Bungie made the story a mix mash of different ODST's stories in New Mombasa, and you unlock different pieces of the puzzle, during each characters story. Also there is a new co-operative game mode called Fire fight (guess they wanted to copy COD WAW in that sense...)

- Rock Band- Beatles: Don't care...I hate rhythym games. But if you do care, they tell the story of the Beatles rise to greatness, and it has synchronized vocal portions.

- Halo: Reach was announced, with a nice little teaser trailer. Hey I know Bungie just wants some more money, but I'm psyched (how about you).

-Alan Wake- HOLY SHIT!!! I've been waiting forever for it, and well it looks awesome!! The visuals are amazing, and the story is amazing...It looks so scary!! Well worth the wait...

Other News Microsoft related:
They've now synched XBL with Facebook and Twitter. You can tweet and Facebook people all from your living room.
Also they have a games on demand service, which will feature games like Bioshock, Mass Effect, and COD MW. All for only twenty bucks...not a half bad deal.

Anyway:
Microsoft again did an amazing job with their press confrence. I am excited for all the games I saw there, and cannot wait to see what other surprises Sony and Nintendo have.

Enjoy E3 Happy Gaming

E3...what are you Looking Forward to??

Well you can answer that, but how about I tell you mine first!!
(Totally stole this idea from DCPC 10...)

#10

Dragon Age: Origins

 Bioware

The first of three Bioware games I'm excited for, which makes sense because Bioware doesn't have a bad game to the name, and this looks to continue that streak. It looks to be like KOTOR with some Mass Effect Elements tied in. First off the Blood Effects look absolutely amazing. Bioware does an awesome job with the story, so  we'll have to wait and see what it will be all about.

#9

Dark Void

 Capcom / Airtight Games

Capcom is another awesome company that has put out three awesome titles this year, and this looks to possibly be the best of them all...
The jetpacking action looks awesome, and the vertical cover looks intriguing...the story looks pretty good for a capcom game, and it looks like a ton of fun.

#8

Half Life 2: Episode 3

Valve

This would be higher on my list, except for the fact that I doubt it will even be at E3. I just want to see that cliff hanger ending fulfilled where you go searching for Dr. Mosman, right after Eli dies. Anyway I cannot wait to see what happens..

#7

Mafia II

2K

This game looks pretty damn amazing, and I cannot wait to see what they are able to do, that separates this game from a GTA game. I'm a huge fan of open world games , because they're so big and there's so much to do.  I cannot wait for this game.

#6

Alpha Protocol

Obsidian

I was a huge fan of former Obsidian game KOTOR II, which is made up of former Bioware people. I saw the trailer for this game where you have four options on what to do, and I feel like this game will take story telling to a whole new level. Your character acts out his lines, and you have a time limit to choose your line, which I think adds a whole knew demension to the morale choices, because you only have a few seconds to decide. It looks like Mass Effect meets the Bourne Conspiracy.

#5

Star Wars the Old Republic

Bioware

Another Bioware title I'm hyped for. I am a ginormus fan of the KOTOR game, and have played Each game ten times. This game is now an MMORPG, and it looks to take Story telling to a whole new level, where your personal story effects the landscape and environment around you, yet you can still interact with other real players. This could be the game to topple the Phenomenon of WOW.

#4

Bioshock 2

2K

Never played the original Bioshock (actually am buying it this week), but  I am really interested in playing it, and from what I've heard, it is amazing. Bioshock 2 doesn't look to disappoint either, and I really want to see where they take the idea of the game and how they tell the story from the point of view from the Big Daddy.

#3

Assassins Creed 2

Ubisoft

I'm a bit of a history buff, and I really loved the first Assassins creed, because it took into a time period very rarely explored in games, and gave it a very unique twist to it. Now mind you it wasn't without its faults, but it did create these amazing visuals and three living breathing cities. If UBisoft can make the game seem less repetitive and allow you to be more creative then I think that this game has potential to be one of 2009's best.

#2 Mass Effect 2

Bioware

Bioware has some big stuff on their plate, but I know they will deliver with their third big title in the next year and a half. I loved Mass Effect and thought that the story was brilliant. It was the first groundbreaking game that had your character act out every single line of dialogue, which added a whole new level of realism to the game. If they can make the action more enjoyable, fix the fucked up MAKO, and get the AI to behave a little better in battles, then I think we can have one of the greatest RPGS of this generation.

#1

Modern Warfare 2

Modern Warfare was one of the most delightful surprises of my life. I wasn't expecting much at all, but I found Modern Warefare's campagin to be excellent, tightly knitted, fast, well paced, and most of all meaningful. The gameplay was much improved, the weapons were really excellent, and the multiplayer was the best of any game ever. Modern Warfare 2 looks to amp up the graphics, make another awesome story, and add some improvements to the already excellent multiplayer. I am excited to hear about the story, and the fate of Soap, Gaz, and Captain Price. THIS LOOKS AMAZING...

Two games that I really want to see and hear about are Starcraft II and Diablo III, but Blizzard's saving it all for Blizzconn.

Anyway thanks for reading...
