Casts of Podding

After listening to voices such as Garnett Lee, Jeff Gerstmann, and all the members of their respective podcasts, it seems to me that good content is far from the only bullet point that drives podcasts onto people’s iPods.

It’s the cast that sells the product.

Nobody wants to listen to random people talk about anything, so in order to get listeners to come back week after week, they have to like the people who are on the show, and start to feel as if they know them.

The Giant Bombcast from the guys at Giant Bomb have done a great job of this.  Not only have they had basically the same exact cast since the conception of their podcast, they talk about things other than video games.  In the beginning, in fact, they had a hard time keeping any sort of direction at all, but now I feel as if I know them better.

In the same sense, Garnett Lee has been a mainstay for my ears for some time now.  Even though he’s had multiple casts around him, (none better than John Davison, Shane Bettenhausen, and Luke Smith, sorry other guys) he’s been a constant force and is almost a cast in his own right.  I want to know what Garnett thinks of games and his opinions change what I buy.

All of this brings me to the point of this rambling: Picking a good cast and sticking with it is important.

That’s why Chance and I are working hard to find a large group of people to pick from.

We’ll be keeping you up to date.
