I've always wanted to get into one of the Paradox 4X games, but never got any further than messing around with the demo for CK2, so this game is quite a learning experience.

I'm about 4 hours into my first game and I'm just now feeling like I have a basic grasp on how I should be playing. The problem is, I'm fairly weak compared to a lot of the other empires (civs? I dunno). So much so that I'm considering starting over now that I understand the game better. I think I'll do a lot better next time. Although, I'm not sure if you're supposed to feel weak? I know these games are more about being a small player in a larger game rather than the one absolutely dominating like in Civilization, but some of the AI are just way beyond what I have.

I'm having fun with it though and I would recommend it to anyone interested in these kinds of games. Definitely seems way more accessible than CK2 from the brief time I had with it.

@error52: Yeah, fuck that guy I guess? His involvement makes me way less interested. I dunno if that's stupid or not, but that's the way I'm feeling.

7 years, 9 months ago Topic: The Apocalypse of Choice

"Zombies, I know I played Resident Evil and Dead Rising for a reason."

I'm pretty sure that's the oldest you can get since this was likely posted shortly after launch. Followed Jeff from GameSpot, to the Arrow Pointing Down podcast, to now. It's been a fun ride. Also, that's a very long time ago, god dammit.

@ll_exile_ll: Brandon Sanderson is doing that with a series of novels that take place 300 years after the original Mistborn trilogy. From traditional fantasy stuff to electricity, trains, guns, etc. This is the first novel.

Hasn't been done in video games yet from what I know. Although, maybe Final Fantasy counts? I'm not a big enough fan of those games to know for sure.

Yup, absolutely. Giantbeast's Netflix idea is so genius I'm surprised that it isn't already implemented. It would get me to resub to Netflix for sure. Every time I went on there I just ended up watching old episodes of Iron Chef and never committed to anything new, so forcing me to watch something would fix my crippling indecision for sure.

Anyways, back to the original topic. I mentioned in the chat, during the aforementioned test, that I would love a live stream of old GB videos, but I would likely only bother with it if it had a chat room. I can go back and watch my favorite videos by myself anytime, and I do. But being able to watch them with other people and "see" their reactions would be a lot of fun. I'd definitely tune in regularly. It would be nice if GB just had the chat room up with the constant live stream of videos, but I'm sure that keeping the chat server up and maintaining a 24/7 live stream is asking a lot. It probably wouldn't be worth it from a business stand point, but it sure would be rad.

@baronsamedi: @mordukai: Almost every time that I've invaded the host has ran back to the bonfire and summoned as many people as they can to help. A few times I've managed to kill their co-op partner just to have the host run back and summon the same person back in. It can be quite frustrating and often the host and phantoms will just sit at the bonfire refusing to move forward into the areas that still have enemies in them.

Needless to say, invading can be lame. I got fed up eventually so I took off all my armor and equipped a torch and started invading people and acting as a sort of guide, flailing my torch around and showing them where to go and pointing out hidden enemies. That was fun for a couple hours.

The Firelink Shrine music has been my favorite so far. It's not the most bombastic, but I love the vocals and it fits the somber mood of Firelink well.

I was fine with Farron Keep. The poison does such little damage that it didn't feel like a huge issue. It wasn't until I hit Boreal Valley that I started to lose the much needed patience required to play these games. Although, I was playing the game quite a bit over a few (very fun) days so I might have just started burning out.

I've taken a break from the game for a couple days because I was struggling to have fun with it. I'll come back to it once I'm ready to be patient with it again.

When I watched the Factorio quick look I thought the game looked neat, but I wasn't sure I would enjoy actually playing it. I saw there was a demo and after playing for an hour and feeling totally hooked, I bought the game immediately. I would have waited for a sale, but the demo sold me on it for full price.

So needless to say, I appreciate when a developer puts a demo out. It will either sell me on the game or save me the trouble of asking for a refund when the game isn't something I enjoy. Whether or not that's worth it for a developer financially is a whole different matter.
