Indeed. A tweet for a warehouse fire.

Watching this recorded later, the beta player is really nice - so easy to cast to my Chromecast!

The music in the racing management game is funny, but as somebody who watches a lot of WRC and occasional F1, they really do get pretty dramatic with their TV coverage music so I am not surprised with their choice here.

I will admit something that may also help vindicate Vinnie -

Switch and Hitch were released within days of each other in 2005 (less than 1 week if IMDB and Wikipedia are right).

Given Will Smith's history of recording tracks for his movies, I have always - until today - assumed that this track about mixing it up with girls in clubs was for his movie about teaching losers to be cool with girls.

Also @mister_v, I have really fond memories of LA Noire. It had some deep and sometimes very frustrating flaws but a good period piece game can be worth its weight in gold. Also, it was a present from my wife during a time when I was pretty cash strapped for games so I think that might weigh in a little bit too.

As somebody whose uncle sells point of sale terminals and also as somebody who investigates the occasional financial crime, my understanding is this:

Yes, we sign things. Sometimes that is very helpful for us - it's a felony to use somebody's credit card for a fraudulent transaction, but it's also a second felony (at least in my state) to impersonate them. Signing as that specific person is one way a criminal can be charged with this. In my own life, I haven't been able to tell what the limit is - I feel like at most convenience stores, anything under $25 or so has no signature. Some stores require it with every transaction. Yes - you sign a piece of paper. It's a hassle, sure - but sometimes it feels really good to show a crook security footage of them signing a receipt you now have in evidence where they signed as somebody else.

My understanding is that the resistance comes from multiple fronts. Point of sale terminals aren't cheap, and as far as I have ever been able to see, stores aren't generally held responsible for fraud, so they didn't give a crap. If you tell me I've got to spend a million bucks or more across multiple stores to buy brand new terminals so that a different business - the bank that charges me 3% per transaction - can avoid losing money, I'm going to be pretty unhappy.

From the bank's perspective, I don't know what the resistance is - sure, it's a few bucks more per card, but I know I've lost about $1,500 over the last decade or so when my card numbers have been stolen. The bank was responsible for replacing that money, so I would have assumed they would have been pretty eager to trade a few bucks on a card for vastly lowered financial liability.

So far, my bank hasn't even asked me to set up a PIN for my credit card, and they haven't sent me a chip-enable debit card yet. When I get to a retailer that uses the chip system, it's just that - chip only. So it's still generating some one-time use number, which is better than risking my card number being stolen, but nothing prevents somebody else from using that card if I lose my wallet. In short, it's a wreck.

While it seems like "no duh" to have the government tell banks to send out the chips NOW and to tell retailers that starting 01/01/20XX they'll be responsible for fraudulent charges, our political system doesn't handle that very well. So for the time being, we put up with the slow roll out and handmade signs blocking at least half the chip readers I see in stores. I use Android Pay every place I can because of it.

Edit - I should add that I don't get to see the backend between banks and stores, I guess. For example, when somebody used my debit card to rack up a few hundred bucks in Steam wallet funds, what I saw was the bank replacing the money. I assumed they ate the loss, but I suppose it's also possible they go after the merchant. Merchants may also just build this in as shrinkage - some huge ones have a pretty high loss tolerance in that area.

Gah, somebody's mic (or multiple somebodies) is rubbing on something, and it makes a weird crunching noise all the way through. It almost sounds like somebody is trying to eat some cereal on the sly, but I think it's just cloth rubbing a mic.

@onemanarmyy: I think that they ended up summing it up well. For something simple like Rocket League, it might be possible and fun. But when it comes to getting your friend lists assembled and chatting and stuff, it would be a pain.

Destiny is a good example - for me and my work friends, it was a chat room with shooting. What I wouldn't want to do is have to create a new friends list for that and then use a 3rd party voice chat app to talk.

I think people like the idea in the abstract without necessarily thinking about how much work it takes to get the connectivity beyond just game data working.

That's definitely true sometimes, but in general, I don't listen to many game podcasts that do. It's not like I listen to a million of them, but over the years I bet most of us have listened to a ton, and it's beyond counting now the number of times I've cringed either hearing or watching a gaming personality miss a critical feature or function that completely changes a game experience. I listen to Idle Thumbs every week, and on the rare case where they talk about a game I've played, I end up doing a lot of eye rolling at how badly they're understanding core concepts or have missed gameplay mechanics. It doesn't mean I like them less - I bet I've dismissed a ton of games because I didn't really "get" them and ended up putting them down.

In almost every case, I think it's just a matter of time vs content. In some cases, prepping for two or three hours for a sub two hour video would be very difficult given the amount of content GB creates. When I want people who sound a little more like newscasters and videos that feel more edited and less off-the-cuff, there are sites like Gamespot I can visit. Part of the fun of GB for me is how weird and dumb it gets sometimes.

I was really looking forward to this Vrodeo but as someone who has played most of these games, I'm pretty bummed about how sloppy you and ill informed guys were when it came to showing them. Spending even 10 minutes with each of them before and maybe looking up the features on the Steam page would have given you a much better idea going in. I'm not claiming they are all pristine polished experience, but you guys seem to have formed the narrative in your head that these early VR games aren't worth your time and are all just dumb things only worth while if you want to fuck around in them, so you treat them all as such and the audience gets a bad impression. It becomes a catch 22.

Remember when Soldier Boy played Braid and talked about how "the game ain't got no point" and is a good game for people who like "drink and get drunk and smoke weed and get high"? That's basically what you guys seem like in this video to anyone who has spent more time with these games.

Over the years I have come to expect slop from GB when it comes to any research or basic preparation - they just don't do it and their content constantly suffers. Even though I expect this, I own a Vive and it's still really disappointing to see them gloss over so many games I've spent hours and hours playing. I wish they had someone on staff who really knew anything about VR so they could be a good host or info-dump co-host for these vids.

"Dan should go to the Lawrence, KS public library to learn how electronic music is made:"

Hmm. Given how he spent college and his mostly bored face during the entire music segment, that doesn't seem like the activity or location for Dan.

I wanna try the RE 7 demo before I head out of state, but "tonight" must mean something different to Sony.

I can't find it anywhere on the store, although I can find pre-order links for the game. Am I missing something?

Yes, from what the crew said, it was only available "tonight" to people at e3. not people sitting at home.

The crew is wrong. You have to download it using your PS4. For some reason Capcom doesn't know it's the year 2016 and won't allow you to do it through the web store.

Sounds about right. The internet - Harder Than you Thinkā„¢ Thanks for the heads up, I'll go start the download!
