    it prevents screen tearing. you can also look at this,   general idea though, only have it enabled if you experience screen tearing, as it generaly will give you a performance hit.

    will always start on hard (the hardest level, i know they dont call it that now,  as now its,     medium, hard, heroic, imposible,    just to make thouse who play it on 'easy' feel better about themselve). .     even if a game doesnt use all 4 cores, the game will still benifit from a 4 core CPU over a 3 core one, as the game isnt the only thing running, the operating system also needs to run, so that and other background tasks can move onto the forth core and thus not competing with the game for resources.
