What to do?

I have a big urge to go back and review some older games. I'm browsing on the internet to find the right games although I might just review CTR on the Playstation im really not sure. I was looking on amazon earlier and they have like the Fallout Collection and starcraft 1 for like £3.00 ($5.00 about). I tried out the Starcraft shareware earlier and it just blew my mind, that game is still awesome. I now downloading a game called War Rock which is a free online shooter that I have heard is not very good but just wanna try it out. Just rambling now, gonna try out this War Rock thing and yeah thats all.

UNO Review

Uno is great. As a physical card game its cheap, easy to learn and a damn load off fun when playing with the right people. UNO has become a cult classic with Xbox 360 owners because the people at Carbonated Games have mananged to take all those things that make UNO great and streamline them for XBLA. Now just to get it out of the way I will not be explaining the rules of UNO, firstly because I cant really be bothered and secondly its just criminal if you dont know them anyway.

Straight away at the main menu are two play options,  Single Player and Multiplayer. The Single Player experience is basically a game of UNO with bots but with a few twists. One of UNO's main strenths is the variety of ways you can play it. There are three game modes to choose from in the Single Player. Standard UNO, were the player must win multiple rounds to win the match. Partner UNO, were the four players partner up and basically play a game of Standard UNO and House Rules UNO, allowing the player to customize the rules to his/her liking. These rules vary from scoring type, pealties, bluffing and more. This is key because most people have their own "special" way of playing and it really feels as though the developers have taken this into account. The artificial intelligence of the bot players is good although its hard not to be, seeing as the gameplay in UNO consists of pressing the "a" button over an over. A good example of this is on an earlier Bombcast were one of the team thought the game could be played by a dead person.

What UNO basically looks like...
What UNO basically looks like...
Multiplayer is what really makes UNO special. In terms of modes its very similar to Single Player although the House Rules mode is replaced with custom match. Once your into a game, after choosing either player or ranked match, you can either be met by a very large gamerpic or somebody waving back at you, giving you the middle finger and a number of other unsightful things. UNO is (amazingly) one of the few games compatible with the Xbox Live vision camera. This gives the trash talking avatars a face. I'm not saying that I encountered alot of these cameras but when I did I was plesently suprised, it just gives that extra sense of personality to the game and it makes you smile. There is something about UNOs multiplayer that I cant really put into text, you need to play it for yourself to truly get it. All I will say is that UNOs multiplayer is the best of any xbla game and I dont think many people will say otherwise.

The sound and graphics are both great. The developers have done what they can to the graphics to make them look up to the standard of HD televsions with crisp textures and high resolutions. The backgrounds are brightly coloured and move inconspicuously throughout the round. The diffferent theme decks spice up visuals even more. It kind of seems silly to even talk about the graphics because they could'nt really look any different. But the developers could have got it wrong, thankfully they did not. The music is one of the highlights of the games for me even though it is very hard to describe, lets just say "light jazz".

UNO is one of my favourite Xbox 360 titles so far. Everything comes together in a fantastic little package and for only 400 msp. This is a great buy for anybody who likes to have alot of  fun.

Crisis Core FF7: Impressions

Yeah so the game I picked up was Crisis Core FF7. I have never been into the Final Fantasy series but this game has really turned me around. A review is coming soon so I wont go into to much detail. Im about 4 hours into the game so far(playing it pretty non stop) and im really enjoying it. The story is unfolding nicely, the graphics are stunning, the battle system is compelling and addictive and the voice acting is solid.

Thats all I have to say for now but heres a short gameplay video of a boss battle about 2 hours in. I appoligize in advance for the quality but whatever.

Rainbow Six Vegas 2 Review (x360)

The Rainbow Six series has always taken a back seat to other shooters i.e. Halo, Call Of Duty. However they rarely lack in quality and Rainbow Six Vegas 2 is no exception. It is a perfect example of a game that can remain unchanged. The combination of suberbly refined squad tactics and frantic gunplay add up to make a very satifying and rewarding experience.

The plot is well, there. Same old story, terrorists, bombs, hotstages and Las Vegas. Infact at some points it is quite hard to follow but its not very deep so you can get the idea. It kind of feels like they just found another excuse to go back to Vegas but I suppose thats one of the constraints of the naming choice. The game initially begins in France, at the same time Logan Keller (Rainbow Six Vegas's 1st protagonist) is saving people in Las Vegas before jumping forward five years to 2010. Throughout the game you take control of Bishop, a generic, gruff voiced member of Rainbow. However this game is not about emotional envolvment, its about killing terrorists which is what this game does best.

The gameplay has not changed much since the first Vegas and having not played any Rainbow Six games prior to Vegas im not sure its ever changed. At the start of each level you and your two team mates fast rope out of a low flying chopper (witch is awesome) down to the groud were you are plunged into the action. The cover sytem in Vegas feels really good. Going into cover, peeking out over the top and popping a few shots before returing back down is as fun as ever. You can alo blind fire wich is hardly accurate and should only really be used in desperate times.  Obviously it would not be a Rainbow Six game without squad tactics. In Rainbow Six Vegas 2 much like its predocessor, you roll around with two other guys. The ai of these guys has been improved since the first Vegas. When ordering your men to move foward, instead of running blindly to the marked point, one moves ahead while the other stay and covers. Then the covering soldier moves forward while the other soldier covers him. Your men may now deny orders when they are blatantly incorrect causing you to concentrate more on what your doing. Going into rooms is a big part of the Vegas games, this may sound mind numbingly boring, but watching helpless enemies anhilated after blowing the door they were standing next to off it hinges is fantastic. The tactical part of the game is as great as it was in Vegas 1 and really makes you feel like your a trained elite. The shooting feels just as powerful as it always has, making Halo look like a kid with a lollypop.

For me the best part about Rainbow Six Vegas 2 is the guns. There are 5 different types of guns to choose from in the game, submachine guns, light machine guns, assault rifles, sniper rifles, shotguns and shields. There are around 36 guns in the game total and each can be upgraded. Everything from higher capacity mags to laser sights to scopes can be attached to your guns. This makes replayability very viable as playing through a level with just a shotgun in hand is very different to playing with a sniper or assault rifle. You can also customise your armour by balacing mobility and protection for each individual part of your charecter.

Probably the biggest new addition to the game is the xp system. The xp system is an mmo like way of ranking up. Just like in Call Of Duty 4, where every single multiplayer kill awards xp that will eventually let you rank up,  unlocking weapons etc. However the difference in Vegas 2 is that this system carries over to the single player experience also. This is great as it allows you to unlock better weapons and gear without having to step foot in the multiplayer.

That is not to say that the multiplayer is bad in anyway. There are 5 game modes to choose from that can be played on over 12 maps (excluding dc), each map is vastly different and is best for certain game modes. The environments range from an abandoned construction site to a theatre to a casino floor. Each mode is pretty standard stuff. The gameplay in the multiplayer component is alought faster than the single player witch is odd to adjust to. The absence of your squad to command turns the game into a straight shooter but an enjoyable one to say the least. Co- Op and terrorist hunt modes return from the first game, each awarding you xp.

The graphics and sound are good, not as cinematic as Call Of Duty 4 and not as striking as Halo 3 (or TF2) but good. The charecter models look fantastic (mine looks like a freakin robot) and the animation very realistic. The environments are a bit bland, the game misses the night time scenes of the first game were the game really shone visually. I guess much like the reall Las Vegas it does not look as good in the day time. In terms of sound designthe game is great. The music sturs in the background with big orchestral scores as, thesound of the different guns is powrful and visceral.

Rainbow Six Vegas 2 is a game were all the pieces were there, they just needed to be put in the right place, and in my eyes they have been. The game is not perfect but its damn near close.

RBSV2 Early Impressions

RBSV2 Early Impressions

Rainbow Six Vegas 2 is the sequel to Rainbow Six Vegas, this is obvious. Both games are Tactical shooters. You roam around very linear levels with 2 comrades dispatching terrorists with merciful precision. The first act of the game is a tutorial to get you back in the groove of things but you are not doing this in some safe training facility, you are thrown into the first mission were you are told things on the go.

There are some minor differences to the first game that can be seen immediately. The bottom of the screen displays the xp you have accumulated. Xp is gained by killing terrorists in different way i.e. head shot, grenade, killing an enemy though smoke. Eventually you will get enough xp to rank up in a COD4 fashion, unlocking new gear for your character.

This was only a few thoughts having only played 30 mins of the game. Expect the full review soon.
