The Last of Us is a highly-rated, popular TV series based on an award-winning video game. The incentive to write/talk about it is already clear without having to resort to accusations of astroturfing.
I love when they get a question and go off on such a tangent that they forget the actual question. For instance, I don't think any of them answered the "worst smell" question from Bodies Out, but the tangent was highly entertaining.
I don't think Jess is weird for knowing what SCP is, but I do think it's weird to be surprised when someone doesn't know something like that. I'm 37 years old (like a year younger than Dan) and been using the Internet regularly since around 2000 and didn't know what it is. To be honest, I still don't. I've heard of "creepypasta", but I really only know it from the Slenderman documentary. Then again, I never visited sites like Something Awful and very rarely visited 4chan.
57:10 I think this sounded a bit more dismissive than it was intended. Maybe it was the tone. The crew reading the chat should be able to decide for themselves whether the information they're seeing is useful to them. They've read and assimilated many things throughout their life up to this point, and I don't see why they couldn't do the same during a discussion. Maybe it's not necessary to say it was read from chat, and it's possible there was a misunderstanding that stemmed from that, but each person has their own agency to not just be a mouthpiece of chat. They shouldn't need to be told to not be influenced.
@kaungo: Owned by "corporate"? What does that mean and why should it matter? I'm not saying GB needs to report this story, but that seems irrelevant. If you're trying to imply that there's a corporate mandate against talking about it, that's a bold accusation. First, they're owned by Fandom, so you'd think their new ownership wouldn't care about them speaking about what happened under Red Ventures. But more importantly, I would hope someone like Grubb would not abide by that kind of suppression if he really thought it was newsworthy. I think it's more likely that they just don't want to talk about it.
