I'm not even sure what Vinny was referring with Hotline Miami since it won Best Music.
He's talking about Hotline Miami 2, which alex pushed hard for but didn't make it onto the top 3.
Thanks, that makes more sense. But a weird one to bring up since Alex also really wanted Splatoon that year, which ended up winning, and supported Necrodancer as the other runner-up. Getting 2 of the 3 games you want doesn't seem like an especially notable snubbing of Alex. And while Alex made it clear he loved the Hotline Miami 2 soundtrack and made a case for it, he ultimately didn't fight particularly hard for it.
Also, it would be interesting to see stats on how representative the final list is of each staff member. Here are some simple counts I put together, but it would be more interesting to have some more thought out calculation. I arbitrarily broke out Top 5 since I think those would have a stronger case and be more representative of a member than their #8.

It's interesting to see that the final list ended up being most representative of Alex and least representative of Vinny this year.
@pencilbern: it’s a time honored tradition that each year someone will get their way. There was that time Brad filibustered to exhaustion until he won. There was the time Jeff wouldn’t budge on Mario Maker despite most of the staff not really caring much about it. This year Alex got his dues and who knows maybe next year Vinny will stand his ground but I think he’s too nice of a guy for that.
Jeff fought the hardest for it, but let's not forget that Mario Maker was also Dan's #1 game. And that was about placement, which I think is not quite as controversial as completely eliminating a game from the list.
As for Brad, I'm not sure which time you're referring to since he's done that multiple times from my recollection.
Let's not pretend Alex never gets his way, either. I'm not even sure what Vinny was referring with Hotline Miami since it won Best Music. Alex also got Splatoon to win Best Music. The only thing that comes to mind is Yakuza 0, but it was his #3 and his #1, 2, and 4 did make it. Not to mention he managed to get Judgment on in 2019.
Vinny making concession after concession to try and keep TLOU2 in the top ten, only to be worn down at the last was rough to watch. At least he went down swinging I guess.
Yep. Sadly he only got 1 of his top 5 in their top 10 list -- the next lowest was 3/5 tied between Ben and Jan. As for his whole top 10, he only had 3/10 to make it which is the lowest tied with Jan. Vinny definitely not bitter about it, though. He's a stand-up guy who is fine making sacrifices for the sake of others.
Brad getting VICIOUS about Spiritfarer later on damn
Right? I know it's not a pure numbers game, but 5/7 were for Spiritfarer over Animal Crossing and Ori, and people tend not to challenge Brad when he does stuff like that. I'm not saying it would have definitely made it, even though I agree it's better, but they didn't even bring it back for discussion after that support.
@kamasamak: nah it's gotta be abby from tlou2 if we're talkin 2020 game moms
This is an interesting choice. I hadn't considered that to be their relationship. Abby is very protective, but I figured it to be more of a big sister relationship than a motherly one. Especially with Yara gone. And their banter seems more like that of siblings. But of course Lev's mother is gone too and these roles can be fuzzy.
