1. Batman: Arkham City
Asylum was a great game in it's own right and when this sequel was announced I was honestly scared that they couldn't make it any better. I was proven wrong. Arkham City takes all of Asylum and makes every aspect better. The fighting, the technology, the stealth, and even the characters. I won't lie when I say I even get giddy just flying around in this beautiful game. A captivating game from beginning to end and a definite recommendation for all gamers. Batman Arkham City is my game of the year!
Once again a summer of arcade game finds its way to my heart but this time it got me good. From the time I started Bastion I knew that there was a great adventure waiting to unfold. The art is great and adds to that sense of adventure but the dialog is what really makes this a great package. With some great gameplay and an even better story Bastion is defintitley a game to look for.
3. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
I have never played an Elder Scrolls game and was more on the Fallout side so when I saw Skyrim footage for the first time I was skeptical. I am glad to say that it wasn't bad at all. Bethesda actually did a lot of work on this game and have fixed a lot of problems from the past games and more importantly added a lot more depth to this genre of role playing in general. With 70+ hours I feel that the game can do a great job of you sitting down and going on a mission spree. I really can't say much more about this game other than it is a great piece of role playing game. Go buy Skyrim!
4. Mortal Kombat
As a fan since youth I was stoked for this game! It really seems like after many games and different type of styles, going back to the original ways was the best thing to do! The game does great in making the punches seem like they really hit and also do a great job in making the characters moves and fatalities right. I can pick up this game at any time and still exclaim as to how fun it is or how awesome it is that I just ripped a guys spleen out. My personal fighting game of the year.
5. Gears of War 3
It is incredible to actually see how big Gears 3 is compared to the first not only graphically but gameplay wise too. Epic got it down to the tee with this game and made sure that it was fun to play. The story is great and the multiplayer also feels like it is at its prime. And not to mention there is still the awesome Horde mode and Beast mode. With so many great features Gears 3 should be bought because it has so many features and game modes that it feels like more than just one game.
6. NBA 2K12
I feel like 2k finally perfected their craft with this game. The controls are way to smooth and actually give you a lot of control. It is also very easy to get into. The game has a lot to play what with the dynasty, a quick game between games old and new, and a great my player story that has a lot of interesting level up mechanics. Great game and great quality this is also my sports game of the year.
7. Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds
This game is crazy! Last year I had Vanqusih on my list and said that its speed and falshyness made it great. That is exactly what this game does and it is impressive that Capcom made it so players can keep up with it. A smaller roster than I would like and pretty simple controls, but overall I had a good time with this game.
8. Iron Brigade
Double Fine knows how to charm and with many games coming out this year I would say Iron Brigade is there best one this year. An actual great turn on tower defense games and some interesting level up mechanics, the game is fun to just be around. The dialog and titles of items in this game also show that Double Fine knows fun and how to implement it. Great game!
9. L.A. Noire
What an awesome game! From the moment I started La Noire I knew that this game was going to be one of the most interesting of 2011. I love the facial movements but more than that I love how in depth the actual investigation of objects can go. This game makes you feel like a detective and I love the era it is set in. I can think of very few and minuscule faults but this game works and that's all that matters to me!
10. Dead Space 2
It seemed like a 3rd person shooter year and what a great way to start off this year with what I think might be the best with Dead Space. With one of the craziest intros Dead Space 2 pretty shows what to get ready for within 10 or so minutes. The story of the game is fantastic and has great moments that make your heart race. Although getting repitive towards the middle the action is great and the shooting is very smooth. In addition to the story the multiplayer is also pretty neat. Dead Space 2 is a great game and also one of the best looking of 2011 and all the work put into it shows off brightly. Definitely worth a look!
