DQ IX lost me with it's custom made characters, giving your party members little to no personality. I stopped playing after a few hours though so maybe your main character makes up for it (who is also custom made by the player).
 
DQ V is easily one of my favorite games. Before giving up on the series you should at least try that one out IMO.

Owned Red and Yellow (and maybe Blue, but I can't remember). Dodrio mode on Pokemon Stadium was nuts :)

Fallout 3's DLC added meaningful content to game and is the right way to implement that kind of stuff (bugs aside, but this is nothing new for Bethesda). The "weekly Fallout 3 segment" that continued for months and months on the GB podcast proved that, though I do agree that a lot of DLC in games is awful.

Came for free with DK64, so it was an easy purchase for me. Would've bought it anyway for Majora's Mask.

Haven't played many new games this year, other than Mass Effect 2. So I guess that wins by default.  WoW Cataclysm will probably take it's spot when it comes out.
 
Best game I've ever played? Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride. 1UP's review of it pretty much sums up my thoughts.

The game in general didn't really creep me out, though there were a few spots like Gibdo. The dungeon under  Kakariko Village and the ruined Hyrule Castle Town (complete with ReDeads) in Ocarina of Time were more unsettling for me.
