  • I love Mario Kart, it has always been one of my favourite series and I have played all the console Mario Karts to death, this is now my all time favourite Mario Kart. I could sit here forever telling you how much I love the games presentation and how gorgeous it looks or how amazing the soundtrack is but ultimately this game is here because its a whole lot of fun and I’m pretty fucking good at it.

Mario Kart has always been one of those games where I consider myself to be a pro player, I am really good at Mario Kart, this one is no difference and I spent hours practising on time trials getting to know the tracks and ended up beating all of the staff ghosts times and also getting 3 stars in all modes and all CC’s in the single player. I have played it for 50 hours + and still have not the infamous golden glider, but every week I fit in some races in my hopes to eventually own it.

It handles really well as I had expected, I never feel like any mistake made is the games, its always mine, the game is more skill based than before with less overpowered weapons and even the blue shell can be bested now by a weapon, I like how the Blue Shell now goes on the ground hitting players as it goes past, it hasn’t done that since 64 which I did miss as it makes it so it won’t just hit the first player.

This is one of the best Wii U games I have seen, who cares if the Wii U is not as powerful as the PS4/Xbox One it still packs a good punch with this gem, it looks amazing and the detail and effort put into the characters and tracks is easily seen, the character rooster is great, sure there are babies but hey there’s the koopa kids who are awesome. There is even DLC for this game that involves F-Zero, Excite Bike and Zelda, it was a great bargain and I really can’t wait to play the next one released next year.

  • I never played the original Dark Souls, so don’t ask me why on earth I decided to buy this, but yes I did, and fuck me this game is something else! I played 45 hours or so of the game about 25 hours without a guide then 25 hours with a guide, say what you will but I really just used the guide to look at the cool artwork and some tips on bosses, plus the secret rooms that are nowhere displayed. But hey, it must be good if it got to number 2 right, of course!

It was such a crazy experience with the game, everything about it struck me as my own personal adventure with my guy, it was great. I loved the atmosphere of the game and the sheer curiosity and wonder of just about everything, the world and it all just felt so good. The combat was strange at first but I soon got used to it and became very good at it, if I recall I died lot but learnt through experience how to progress and how to overcome obstacles. The bosses are the best part about the game, there are so many and they all have there own strengths and well more strengths, this game is fucking hard and often feels like the people who made it just made it to say fuck you, but I enjoyed it and I will play through it again on PS4.

There are so many great games that came out this year it made it hard to fit together a list, but yes you can see I did, Dark Souls II was the number one slot for a while, untill I really sat down and played them both again and listend to there music and watched footage till I switched them round. My Game of the Year 2014 is….

  • I had only played Emerald early this year, that was the one season that I missed out on, I had stopped playing Pokemon by that point, only came back towards Platinum, it was a lot of fun and made me even more excited to play Omega Ruby, I loved the changes they made to Pokemon with X and Y and all of that stuff comes back here and it looks and plays great, The online functionality works great and trading especially is so easy and so fun. I had a lot of fun with the gym progression followed by the Elite 4, I did feel it was too easy at one point due to the XP share which was not around in its newest form back in the original. So I did something i had never done before, I changed by Pokemon party so I had all different Pokemon with me that were much lower level, I then progressed through the rest of the game with that. Just after the 8th Gym I took out three and added three of the older ones, a nice mix. It was a fantastic game and I will Probably end up playing through Alpha Sapphire at some point.

  • Ghosts soured me on the whole series, I really didn’t enjoy my time spent with Ghosts, I didn’t finish the campaign or play much of the multiplayer, it didn’t feel bad, just kinda meh. Thankfully the reason why Ghosts was so so was because they spent so much time working on Advanced Warfare which is the best game since Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2. Its single player really is pretty incredible, Kevin Spacey really does a good job as the good/bad guy, he had certain presence every time he was on screen. But the main reason why i enjoyed this game so much is the boost jumps and side steps, the speed that you can go at is incredible and changes the way I want to play these games, I’m not sure I could go back to no boost jumps again, it’s that good. It makes me play online differently too, which by the way is amazing, its new modes are great but I still am happy to play hours and hours of team death match.

  • I actually hated this game when I first played it, I hated how small the screen was, I really found it was too difficult and I just didn’t enjoy the movement. I left it for a week and came back to it and after I realised that you can’t play it like Resident Evil I started to enjoy it, then really really enjoying it and by the end I loved it. In the first hours in the game you have to play it stealthy, which was what I went in not realising and why I didn’t enjoy it as much, but I soon did and got really good at it, the stealth is very good and feels great killing a mess of guys with it. The screen size grew on me, I’m not going to say I would have said no to a full screen but it certainly made it unique. The atmosphere is fantastic, the range of places that you go to in this crazy land is well crafted and I enjoyed exploring, there are also quite a few scary moments but on the whole its a solid action game, just don’t ask me what happened in it plot wise as I have no fucking idea.

  • I’m not a huge Lord of the Rings fan, I enjoyed the movies and I did enjoy the second Hobbit movie but as a child I fell into the Harry Potter camp instead. So up until its release I had little to no intention of buying this game, but when everybody seemed to enjoy it even people who actively dislike Lord of the Rings I decided to try it, I am happy I did. I enjoyed the open world aspect of it mixed with its magnificent Nemesis system which ultimately is the reason it is on the list, sure the game is great but its that system that made me like it as much as I did, so many crazy situations popped up during my playtime like searching for a captain but then finding one then another turns up and so on. Towards the end of the game I ended up getting a little done with that system but for the most part I really enjoyed it.

  • I am in love with the PVZ universe, just everything about it is awesome, I always have, this game not only is fun to play but its just chock full of references to the original two games and brings its one set of jokes too. I didn’t think I would enjoy this game as much as I would as I got the PS4 version and the Xbox version had been out for a while. But yes I did and I still play it now, the overall game play is solid and each class is fun to play, I tend to gravitate towards the Chomper and All-Star classes. The amount of customisation is good too, sure you can buy coins but you really don’t need to as you get a fair amount just by playing the game. What’s more is we keep getting free updates including new card packs, new modes and maps. Right now you get a Christmas themed pack every day of DEC is you log in. I will sure be playing this into 2015 too.

  • I played this game EXACTLY the same way I played The Walking Dead, did not touch it until a week before the last episode was out, that way I get to enjoy them one after the other without waiting months in between and I get to talk about it during a relevant time. This game is very similar to the Walking Dead but with more action sequences and a much more original universe, the game also has a lot of decisions that alter the storyline and usually neither option is the “Good” option. I enjoyed the overall plot and the way it panned out, the characters were great and I found myself happy with the way it ended.

  • This review covers both versions as I own both versions, I first picked up the 3DS version then later the Wii U version. This game is what it is, a fantastic fighting game staring Nintendo characters and a few others, I was a huge fan of the first two games and I did enjoy Brawl but not as much. This one is more a sequel to Meele than Brawl, which is great, the game plays just as I remember it, I’m using a Wii U Pro controller which is fine. It is one of those games that I can either play a few matches before I go somewhere or play for a whole day, I have not tried playing online or even against another human being, but I have just as much fun playing against the CPU. This is a game I’m sure I’ll be playing into 2015 and beyond.

  • Outlast originally came out last year, but it came out on PS4 at the beginning of this year, it was also free for Playstation Plus members so I didn’t even have to pay for it. I’m not to into pure horror games, the closest I get is to games like Dead Space and Resident Evil, but there more like action horror. Outlast is just a pure horror game, I played it over a handful of sessions each time wearing headphones and in the dark, I got scared every time. At one part I had to turn the lights on because I got too freaked out, it does scares really well. Your character slowly becomes insane too over the arc of the game, which is a nice touch, the very end of the game was a big surprise and ultimately a good ending.
