I have been loving this site for a while and over the last few months have been getting more active amongst the community in my own low-key way. My first Blog Post went up the other week which I was please to see attracted a meagre and not entirely troll-full debate. It’s a good feeling when you find somewhere, whether it be in the real world or the virtual, where you feel at home and among relatively like-minded people.  
  So there I am feeling more at home each day, and lo and behold each time I sign in I find my Profile views are growing in number. First up to 10 and I get the quest and then up to 100, 200 and away. Wow, I think why can this be, am I really such an interesting chap that people want to dig deeper behind the words and find out a little bit more.  Pathetic as it might be I feel slightly warmed by the fact that people are interested even though they will find out exactly nothing by clicking on my Profile page. 
 So I go to my Profile with the thought of maybe adding some greenery to the desert of information which currently greets any visitor. As I stop to think my eyes slide up to my avatar, a cool photo I found a month or so back of a girl representing the Hindu God of Gaming. Then a jolt, and I think, wasn't it a month ago that my Profile views started to build up? A shiver of shame runs down my spine. You fool! 
     Each little click on my Profile has just been a male GB'ers pavlovian response to the attractive female posing next to my name, and every view of my Profile has been through the disappointed eyes of the same lonely male gamer who thought that maybe, just maybe, a slim six armed brunette might want his grubby eyeballs all over her personal details. 
 I guess I'm as vain as you lot are shallow.

LOL I have often wondered how many of the female avatars I see around avatars are just guys.  When you play MMOs you learn to just always assume everyone on the internet is a guy :P 
 
Overall funny blog.  But still, there's something more to it.  I enjoy finding a website where I do feel at home.  Where I do find people I can connect with.  Giantbomb has its share of douchewaffles, sure.  But at the moment, I like it here.

Well, in our defense, a lot of people probably clicked on it just to see what the eff is even going on in that pic. It's not exactly sexually motivated if you want to see how/why a girl apparently has six arms. At least, not always.

I was once mistaken for a girl in a free-to-play mmo by a guy playing as a purple lizard. That was pretty funny. 
 
Since then I've mostly stuck with male avatars.

I doubt 200 people clicked my profile to see if I was Chris Metzen.

Funny thing is that I don't mind being mistaken as a girl in games. That way i can always receive free loot. ^^

i remember how creeped out in WoW i was when i created a female character. so many people were willing to then help me quest. 
FS us guys are stoopid.

I think they are more interested in seeing if you really are a girl. Giantbomb had a very famous case where a sexy christian girl turned out to be some dude who assumed the identity of a youtube celebrity.

You probably could have stopped here, and the rest of the forums would have filled you in as to why this was happening. Funny how the Internet works eh?

This was a few years ago, but I was walking across the Glastonbury site with a quite attractive female friend of mine and it took us about 45mins to do what should have been about a 5min walk because every few yards  some friend, someone who half knew her, or some random person would stop her for an oppourtunistic chat. 
  I'd never really thought about it before but it made me realise just how much unwanted (or sometimes wanted) attention you get as a good looking woman. 
I suppose it's loads worse on the internet where inhibitions are far lower and  imagination decides everyone's looks.

That is the internet for you! That is how i got my 200 views or whatever the number was for that quest. I put my avatar as an almost naked girl and I had almost all of the views in the matter of 2 hours. It is pretty hilarious. 

In WoW my ugly as all hell female Orc Shaman has gotten hit on,  guys are willing to take a shot no matter what. I love the complete silence after I reply "I'm a dude".

Well I like girls ... I want to follow girls ;) ... nah truth is I want to follow a good mix of male and female gamers , because you get a good mix of opinions of individuals and gender . Ok I will follow you now :)

Admittedly, I just hit 100 profile views, and I have an inordinately large post count.

Dude assumes identity of sexy christian girl by using pictures of a pretty girl who is a youtube celebrity. It was quite the plan. Here's the thread, it's really quite epic. The mods got involved to pressure him into revealing his true identity and everything. This is the profile, it's quite sad when you look in his image gallery you can still see the comments of male giantbombers under "her" pictures, giving compliments and telling him what a pretty girl he is. "

 I'm not convinced...on the internet, everyone is a guy until proven otherwise.  Acceptable proof would be a new picture with a handwritten Giant Bomb sign in it.  :)
