Making prequels as the sequels is the new sequels now'a days. Or at least that's what i've been noticing. Though it's mostly when speaking of movies since it seems a lot easier to give us people something more interesting that doesn't get boring by giving us a sequel that's actually a prequel to the "last released story".
Star Wars started out with episode 4, 5, 6 - then 1, 2, 3.
Paranormal Activity 1 which was the first movie isn't the first in line, it goes backwards -> Paranormal Activity 3, then 2, then 1.
Lord Of The releasing The Hobbit which takes place before LOTR 1.
I think the new Spider-Man movie coming out in not a far distant future is going to be a prequel to the 1st movie, if i'm not mistaken.
The list surely goes on but i can't really come up with more at the moment. But i'm thinking that a lot of movies directors, games creators, storytellers etc have noticed that we sometimes actually enjoy a sequel as a prequel thanks to our curiosity and our knowledge. We want to know all the details why something in particular happened. Straighten out the question marks sort of speak.
We're most likely going to see it a bit more often in upcoming games in the future. Some titles i can think of at the tip of my nose is Resident Evil (of course) and Assassins Creed. Not stating it is like this in any way, just making a point! It's kind of fun if you think about it.
