Feels like the writing was on the wall since Disney made it clear they wanted to just license IP out to third parties instead running in house studios. Making their one remaining game a toys to life product practically doomed them to play it safe and ride that wave until the fad died down and they could cut their losses. Their statement reads like it could have been written years ago by a VP who was never into the idea, saving it for the inevitable.
Maybe if there was a champion for gaming in the back rooms of Disney they'd have tried harder to make it work, and maybe there will be again someday. Tough break for Johnny V and Avalanche, they did a ton of fan outreach stuff too and built a loyal community around their game.
@alavapenguin: Like others have said it's more about managing your corner of the universe than winning. There are some really cool potential late game events that impact the state of the universe, won't spoil them but you can probably imagine what could happen.
This seems really hard. Like, past the point of difficulty I'm looking for in puzzle games. I'm sure the feeling of success is rewarding but it also seems infuriating. Appreciate the coverage.
@milehigh17: If you really think that then why watch it? Why continue to watch something "difficult?"
But seriously, if you think this is sponsered you haven't been paying attention to this website over its lifespan. Brad likes addictive F2P stuff. Dota 2? Kingdom Rush? Did you think those were ads too? Do you think every time they mention wrestling they're getting a check from the WWE?
Do you really think Jeff would allow companies to buy opinions for their game? The crew likes what they like. Just because it's a game you're not into doesn't mean it's an ad, duder. Don't watch QLs of shit you don't care about.
I may be the only one who feels like that, and yeah, it will affect my viewing/subscribing habits in the future. Putting my opinion up here is just that, my opinion. So take that as it is.
Your opinion is a variation on the same baseless accusation that sore commenters have been using for decades. Game reviewer likes and covers a game I don't like/don't respect/am suspicious of, therefore game reviewer is corrupt/on the take/being paid to shill. You dislike F2P mobile games, fine, but questioning the integrity of the site is a petulant leap to take from there.
My favorite guest article yet. Strategy games have been where it's at for me since the heady days of Colonization and Civilization II and I really enjoyed Rob's take on the state of the genre. Need to give Thea a try and listen to some Idle Weekend.
